Page 22 of One Night Forsaken

“Would it be weird if I introduced you to my friends?”What the hell am I doing?

He scratches the small scar in his brow. Looks from me to them, then back to me. “Uh…”

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

What part of my brain thought it would be a good idea to introduce my one-night stand to my friends—two of which have known me since grade school?

“Don’t worry about it.” I shake my head. “I wasn’t thinking.”

“It’s okay.” He reaches out, touches my arm briefly, then drops his hand as if I burned him. He rolls his lips between his teeth and my eyes follow the action, remembering the taste of him. “I mean, what would you say?”

Huh?My obvious confusion must show because he simply smiles.

“To your friends.” He jerks his chin toward the lake. “How would you introduce me?”

Fair point. Not like I often introduce my friends to random people. Just as I am about to dismiss the idea altogether, I have a light-bulb moment.

“I’ll introduce you as a journalist from…”What the hell was the name of the magazine again?

As if reading my mind, he chuckles. “Washington’s Hidden Gems magazine.”

I point a finger and swish it through the air. “Thank you. I’ll introduce you and tell them you’re in town to write a story.” Feeling somewhat victorious, I smile. “It’ll also get my friend off my back.”

Braydon glances past me for a beat, eyes roaming. “The brunette with twenty questions?”

“That’d be the one.” I take a deep breath, count to three, then exhale. “Please don’t feel obligated. When I suggested it, I was on autopilot.”

His tongue darts out and traces his lips. Time stops for three rapid heartbeats as I ache to taste him again. His lips, his skin. He was the perfect blend of sweet and salty, of desire and need.

No one before Braydon made me feel the way he did.

Like the others before him, he’d told me I was beautiful. Told me he’d had an eye on me all night. Unlike the others, Braydon felt like more than sex.

His finger traces along my jaw to my chin, down the column of my throat, across my collarbone. “So damn beautiful.”

Warm lips meet mine in a kiss that is somehow both hard and soft. Dropping his hips in the cradle of mine, he rocks forward and rubs his length along my entrance. A moan spills from my lips as he growls into the crook of my neck.

“Tell me you want this.”

I trail my hands down his back, stopping when I reach his ass, gripping it firmly. “I want this.”

“Tell me you need this.” He kisses his way up my neck before sucking and nibbling my ear. “That you need me.”

His words throw me momentarily, but I tell him anyway. “You know I need you.”

“Thank god.”

And before either of us takes another breath, he rocks his hips forward and fills me fully.

“Lessa?”

Amber fills my vision as I blink out of the memory. Rattled, I shake my head and blink more. The present filters in as embarrassment heats my skin.

Knees slightly bent, Braydon hovers a breath from my lips. If I lean forward an inch or two, our lips would meet. His hands rest on my shoulders, his thumbs drawing small, methodical circles. The touch gentle and comforting. And as his eyes dart between mine, I see true concern.

“You okay?”

I nod. “Mm-hmm. Yeah.” I nod again. “Fine. I’m fine.”
