I turned to look in the full-length mirror. The dress was red sexy but not close to the one in my mind. I hadn’t realised how revealing it was. It was miles away from anything I would have chosen or had worn in the past.

“I guess, with a wrap, it will be okay,” I murmured, twisting and turning to see the back.

“No wrap needed. If you’re going to be on my arm, my darling Amber, I want the world to see what a cracking woman I have.”

I patted his cheek and he looked so lovingly at me, that my stomach fluttered.

“Then this is the dress,” I said, returning to the changing room.

Andrew insisted on paying for the dress, and I was glad considering I had a small budget for clothes and that would have taken it all.

“Now home, I want to ravish that body of yours,” he said.

I chuckled and the warmth of knowing I was wanted, desired, flowed through me.

However, our lovemaking wasn’t much better than the previous time. I had nothing to compare it to, of course, but I just had a feeling of dissatisfaction, of something missing.

Andrew wasteaching mehow to pleasure him and I enjoyed that, but I wanted pleasuring as well. My stomach felt empty as he slid to the side, beaming with delight, and having come himself.

I kept telling myself it will get better the more experienced I became.

As before, he left, stating he had an early start. As I closed the door behind him, for the first time, I had a pang of disappointment. I pushed it to one side, however. I’d never had sex; I’d never had aproperrelationship. Nothing to compare how I felt with Andrew, or how he made me feel. I shook my head. I was probably just nervous about the dinner. I made myself a cup of tea and snuggled back in bed. I’d worry about it another time.

CHAPTERSIX

The first timeAndrew hit me was during the business dinner. Thankfully, not in front of anyone.

He’d collected me and once again, marvelled at how amazing I looked. I felt a million dollars. I’d pinned up my hair, applied my makeup carefully and was sure to wear the flimsiest, laciest pair of knickers I could find.

I held his arm as we entered a country club, the venue for his dinner, and walked into a room full of people. He, of course, wanted to arrive last, to make an entrance, he’d said. I guessed it wasn’t the entrance he’d hoped, though. He didn’t seem overly happy not to have everyone turn to greet him.

We walked to a small group of people, and he slapped some backs, shook hands, and kissed cheeks of the women in the group. Then he introduced me as his partner.

“Doesn’t she look amazing?” he said, pushing me forward. “I bought this dress, and the shoes and stockings,” he added with a laugh.

I wasn’t sure why they needed to know what he’d bought, but I smiled at him and introduced myself by name.

One woman, the wife of one of his colleagues, complimented my outfit but remarked more on the earrings. She wanted to know where I’d gotten them.

“Probably some flea market,” Andrew said, placing his arm around my waist. “No need to shop there anymore.”

“A friend made them, actually,” I said, correcting him. “She’s an amazing costume designer, hoping to work in theatres.”

He pinched my side, hard. I turned to him with a puzzled look, but before I could speak, he silenced me with a brief kiss on my lips. “Let’s find our table, shall we?”

I was confused, I mean, it was just a pinch, once that would bruise, but I had no idea what it was for.

He took my hand and led us into the dining room. “Excellent, we’re near the boss. Will you do me a favour?” he asked. I turned to him and smiled. “I need to impress the big boss. Be nice to him and if he talks to you, tell him how wonderful I am?”

He placed his palms together and fluttered his eyelids like a child would do. “Pretty please? We can go to France with the pay rise I’d get if he promotes me.”

I laughed. “I’ll tell him how super you are and that he’d be mad not to promote you, how’s that?”

He kissed the tip of my nose. “You are amazing, do you know that?”

The meal was actually very pleasant, and thebig bossspent time talking to everyone on the table. I made a point of talking only about Andrew and how much he loved his job and the company, knowing Andrew was listening in.

He patted my knee as if thanking me.
