“Running from an estranged wife?”

At that, he laughed. “No.”

“An estranged fiancée?”

“Definitely not.”Thank the heavens for that.

Del took a long drink from her beer, then set the empty bottle down. Isaac braced himself for what she was preparing to ask him next.

“What made you want to stop?”

He frowned. “Made me want to stop what?”

“Being a hermit, staying tucked away from everyone.”

She turned her face toward his, brows drawn together. Isaac felt himself drowning in her clear blue eyes. He gripped his beer tighter as the truth escaped him on a whisper. “You.”

Del’s eyes widened, and Isaac feared for a moment she might bolt. Instead, she swiveled to sit facing him, drawing his forehead to hers.

“If you’re not ready for this, for me, I’ll understand.”

He set his beer to the side and traced a thumb across her cheek, thanking the stars above for sending him such an amazing, selfless soul. “I’m not sure what I’m ready for, but it’s definitely not you leaving.”

A faint smile tugged at her lips. “Fair enough. The night’s still young.”

“Is it?”

He kissed her softly, tasting the beer on her lips. She kissed him back softly…then nipped his lower lip. She arched one brow, a mischievous look in her eyes. “Definitely.”

Gone were the soft, tentative kisses, now replaced by hungry, need-filled, possessive ones. Isaac pulled her into his lap, wanting her closer, needing to feel her, to taste her. His lips left hers to trace a trail along her jawline, down her neck, and across her bare shoulder. Del curled her fingers into his hair and whispered his name, the sound spurring him on. He traced the hem of her shirt, his fingers finding the smooth skin beneath. She pulled his mouth back to hers, kissing him soundly, deeply. A soft hiss escaped her as his hands slid higher, brushing the underside of her breasts.

Isaac paused, waiting for a sign of permission. Del broke their kiss and shifted above him, her lips creating their own trail along his stubbly jawline and up to his earlobe.

“You keep this up, and I won’t be able to tell you to stop.”

His fingers skimmed higher, over a lacy bra to brush across her sensitive nub. “Like this?”

“Yes,” she breathed, eyes closed and arching into him. “Just like that.”

He slipped his thumb under her bra and continued to tease her taut peaks, taking great pleasure in watching the confident Delaney Brooks squirm.

“Please tell me you have something.”

He looked to the sky, grateful that he’d humored his favorite grocery store cashier who’d seen him talking to Del the other week and insisted he be prepared “just in case.”

“I do,” he said, tugging her shirt aside to suckle one nipple, then the other. A needy mew escaped her. “Think a box of three will be enough?”

“For now.”

Del shifted above him, her hand tracing down his chest to the bulge in his shorts. She caressed it through the fabric, and Isaac nearly came undone. Enough with the petting—he wanted more.

In one swift motion, Isaac shifted from under Del and reached to unclip Louie from his lead. “Time for bed,” he said, signing as he went. The second Louie was safely inside, Isaac doubled back, picked Del up, and tossed her over his shoulder.

“Wait!” she cried, with a laugh. “Our bottles!”

“Woman, I’ve been waiting for this moment since I met you,” he said, angling for the door. “Those bottles can wait.”
