Sinclair snorted. “That kid is brilliant. There’s no way he’d let himself be tracked.”

Jace nodded. “He used a drone and bitcoin for taking delivery. Remember?”

They got back on the RHIB and headed back to the marina. Dane checked his gear and tightened the straps as they sped across the water. Mac’s words swirled around in his head. The delay wasn’t a delay; it was all planned. Scheduled.

They arrived back at the marina and disembarked. Sinclair was still on the RHIB. Dane nudged Cain and tilted his head toward Sinclair. “Technically, it’s the Navy’s missing shit.”

Cain gave Sinclair the once-over. “Hey, Dalton, you want to join us?”

A smile lit the man’s face. “Thought you’d never ask.” He hopped off the RHIB and followed them to the parking lot. They stood next to their vehicles.

“Where do we go from here?” Sinclair asked.

“Good fucking question.” Cain shook his head. “Ideas, anyone?”

Dane leaned against the SUV. “I’ve been thinking. If I were Manu and had to meet someone to give them the motherboards, what would I do?”

“Probably won’t take his own car,” Jace offered.

“Agreed,” Dane grunted.

“Ride-share service has got to be out. It’s not like you’re gonna depend on an Uber driver to take you somewhere and then wait for you,” Koa said. Then frowned. “But then he’s young. Maybe he would use Uber.”

Cain put a foot up on the bumper. “He’s a smart kid. He’d have to plan for a quick getaway on the off chance he’d need it. I’m sure he doesn’t think he will, but I don’t think he’d be so arrogant that he wouldn’t at least give himself the option of a quick getaway.”

“So, no on Uber or Lyft.” Dane cocked his head. “He’s tech savvy so he’s not going to rent anything either because it can all be tracked. He wouldn’t borrow from a friend because that’s more witnesses.”

“Steal one?” Tac asked. “Seems stupid, but it’s a possibility.”

Dane nodded. “There’s that. But you know, I’m willing to bet he took one of the CGIS cars from the motor pool. It’s Sunday. No one is there. He can take the car and clean the log, so it looks like it never left.”

Koa smiled. “But the car has a GPS locator built in.”

“Who do we call to get the information?” Cain asked.

Sinclair pulled out his cell. “I’ll call the guy in charge of the equipment sign-out.” He put the phone to his ear and walked away.

Dane tried to relax, but it was hard. Mac wasn’t in danger, but she was hurt, and he couldn’t be there. He needed to focus on getting the guys that hurt her. He’d deal with how he felt about her later, after everything died down, assuming this went well. If they screwed this up, he might be looking for a new job, too.

Sinclair came back. “Can I borrow the laptop?”

Jace brought it out of the trunk and opened it on the hood of Dane’s SUV. Sinclair still held the phone to his ear. He logged into his email and then clicked on a link. It brought up a map. “Thanks, Dave. Yeah, I appreciate it.” He tucked the phone back in his pocket.

Sinclair looked at the dots on the screen. “So, there are only three cars in use at the moment. One is downtown Oahu, one is at a restaurant on the north shore, and the last one is at Kalaeloa Airport.”

“Bingo,” Dane said. “That’s got to be Manu.”

“You think the buyer is at Kalaeloa?” Cass asked. “We use it to launch search and rescue missions, the flight school uses it, and the National Guard does, too, on occasion. Also, small planes, you know general aviation stuff. The private jets usually fly into Inouye. What kind of a buyer would use Kalaeloa?”

“The kind that comes for unofficial official visits to the Coast Guard,” Dane supplied.

“Shit, you mean Senator Weston?” Jace squeaked.

Dane nodded.

Cain pulled his phone out of his pocket and checked something. “The senator is wheels up in forty minutes. Explain your theory on the way. We need to get there before Manu leaves.”

Dane, Koa, and Sinclair got into Dane’s rented SUV. Cass and Cain were in Cain’s vehicle, and Jace and Tac were in Jace’s rental. Dane took the lead as they tore out of the parking lot and raced toward Kalaeloa.
