“Lea,” I cried when the boys finally put me down. “You look…” I looked at my friend. Eyes bright, cheeks flushed, her perfect hair not so perfect. I tilted my head, and she raised her eyebrows, making it clear what she’d been up to. “Been here long?” I asked.

“I came early to help the guys make dinner,” she replied.

“We’re having takeout,” Archer pointed out, trying to hide his smile.

Lea winked, leaning her head on Fox’s shoulder. “Yeap,” she replied, popping thePbefore she reached for her drink, signaling the end of this conversation.

Charlie walked toward the counter, handing us both a drink before pointing in the direction of the dining room. Archer held out his hand, and I took it, trying to focus on how much my body craved him and not how much my heart longed for him to be mine.

Dinner eaten, cocktails made and drank, shots poured. I didn’t think I’d ever laughed so much. Fox and Charlie were hilarious, Lea was relaxed and obviously having fun with them both and Archer seemed happy, spending the evening touching or kissing me whenever he got a chance, making me think of his words at my apartment earlier.

“Are you wet for me, Nee?” he whispered when the others were distracted.

“Yes.”

“Good.”

“I like this confident you, but I think tonight I get to call the shots.”

He lifted me into his lap, his erection pressing into me. “I’d like that.”

“Oh, my God, would you two get off each other?” Fox laughed. “Come, show the girls your new song. We’ve been playing it non-stop since you sent us your lyrics.”

Archer shook his head, hissing at his friend. “Not now, Fox.”

“Girls, you want to hear the masterpiece Archer’s written?”

“Yes!” Lea shouted, downing another shot, following Fox and Charlie into the other room where the piano and their other instruments seemed to live.

“Play it for me… please.”

“I—” he tried to argue, but then he nodded.

“Good boy,” I murmured against his lips, trying not to think about how much we’d kissed this week and how much kissing him made it feel like we were a couple.

Minutes later, Archer was at Fox’s piano, and Charlie and Fox sat on stools by the side of it while Lea and I sat on the black leather two seater across from them.

“Play it, play it, play it,” a tipsy Lea yelled before I pressed my hand over her mouth, shutting her up.

She slapped my arm, trying to break free from my hold.

Archer looked at me with wide eyes, that nervous boy I’d first met making a reappearance. I smiled reassuringly, desperate to hear what he’d created.

I’d seen him on stage, I’d heard him sing in the shower, but seeing him close his eyes and start playing the piano was something else. His fingers moved across the keys like he was born to do this. The notes filled the room and Archer began to sing, as his bandmates joined in, harmonizing with him perfectly.

By the last note, tears ran down my face that I didn’t even try to hide.

“Oh, my God,” Lea giggled. “You’re like the rock version ofWestlife. All those key changes…”

“Fuck off,” Fox cried, dragging her from her seat and kissing her before Charlie stepped toward her.

“Yeap, might be the worst insult we’ve ever had, Lea. You’re going to have to apologize.”

Lea rolled her eyes. “You wish,” she replied.

Charlie scooped Lea up, flinging her over his shoulder. “Say goodnight to your friend, Lea.”

Lea lifted her head, smiling at me with glazed eyes. “Night, Nee. I’ll call you tomorrow.”
