“Yours or his?” I laughed.

She raised an eyebrow. “His of course.”

My eyes widened. “Charlie has zero patience… I can’t imagine him waiting for anything. But why are the hot men following you?”

This time, her eyes dropped, and her body sagged. “Something happened at Christmas. They’re my bodyguards. The label insisted I have them until it’s sorted.”

I scrunched my face up, confused. “But you were with your family at Christmas.”

“Yeap.”

“Shit, are you okay?”

“I wasn’t, but I will be. Charlie is being amazing.”

“Ah, he’s got a good heart.” I paused, thinking back to the few months Fox and I fooled around with him. “You know there was never anything between me and him… we were just having fun.”

She squeezed my hand. “I know, and I’m glad you’re still friends. When you get things sorted with Fox, we should invite ourselves to their weekly dinners.”

Before I could agree, my phone rang. “I’d best get this.”

“Okay, but promise me you’ll talk to Fox and finally get together. You guys were made for each other.” I nodded, and she left me alone to answer the call.

“Okay, Queen Bee, we’re all here. What did you need to tell us?”

Sitting around the conference room table in the office, my team helped themselves to the pastries and coffee I’d had delivered this morning. “Firstly, I wanted to thank you all for your help with the Mayor’s dinner yesterday. He’s booked all his events with us for the rest of the year and his wife was so impressed with how we handled her dress situation that we also have her charity events, too.” Smiling, everyone broke into a round of applause. “And I have some other news.”

“Shit, are we broke… are you quitting… oh, my God, you’re pregnant and you want to fold the business and we’re all out of a job.” Freddie’s words flew out in a frantic flurry of panic.

“What? No. Shush.”

Sorry,he mouthed.

“Right, before I tell you anything, I need you to sign these NDAs. They are just standard ones, but I can’t share anything with you until you’re locked down.” I passed them around and watched while they all signed. “Great. Right, I have been asked to plan the Mercury Music Awards.”

Gasps and well dones sounded out around the room.

“Wow, they are organized. This year’s isn’t for a few months, is it and they’re already planning for next year?” Freddie exclaimed.

“No, they asked me to plan this year’s.” I paused, waiting for the reaction.

“What?” he screamed. “Isn’t it in like a few months? That’s impossible.”

I bit the inside of my cheek nervously. “Six months and I guess not, as we have to do it.”

“Why would you say yes, Lea?” Freddie’s voice had risen by at least two octaves.

“Well, they offered me a shit ton of money, but actually, I think I want the challenge. I love organizing birthday parties and weddings, but this is next level. We could start offering corporate event planning and really grow the business.”

“What, just the seven of us?” Jane, the longest serving member of my team, asked, looking panicked. “You want us to do our normal job and organize an internationally renowned awards ceremony?”

“No, don’t worry. They are paying for me to bring in more staff, and if you want to stay doing what you do now, you’re more than welcome. I know this isn’t for everyone.”

She looked grateful. “Can I stay doing parties? The thought of being around famous people makes my anxiety spike.”

“Of course. But look, we’re getting ahead of ourselves. Let me tell you everything and then we can talk logistics.” Everyone nodded, but I couldn’t help but notice them looking at me like I’d lost my mind. “So, we are planning the actual awards evening which is in six months, but we also need to do the nominations event, but that’s much smaller scale, and then we need to do the after party for the Cosmic Gods.”

Freddie buried his face in his hands, his reaction not helping with my nerves about this whole thing.
