“Do you think she’ll listen?” Fox asked quietly.

“She has to.”

Chapter 26

Marshall

“HeyMatt,Ididn’texpect to see you here.”

“You really think I’d let my wife and the rest of the Gods come to an event without checking out the security myself?”

I shook my head.

“But you guys shouldn’t be here. I’m under very strict instructions not to let you anywhere near Lea. I don’t know what you did to fuck up, but you’re not her favorite people right now.”

“I know, but we just need five minutes,” I pleaded.

“Nope. Not happening. That talented woman has pulled a miracle getting tonight organized and I’m not letting you three idiots steal that from her.”

“We’re not. We just need a chance to apologize. And we can’t leave… the curse and all that.”

Matt let out a hollow laugh. “That curse, eh? It seems to only be mentioned when you want it to work for you. It’s not even real, though, is it Fox?”

Our attention turned to Fox, who still looked like shit.

“What?” He looked genuinely confused.

“You emailed Thomas Lanton last night. Unfortunately, whatever you all did to piss Lea off got a whole lot worse when she saw that email.”

“What did you do?” I hissed.

“I don’t remember,” Fox replied, looking sheepishly back at me.

“Phone. Now,” I practically growled.

Fox unlocked his phone and handed it over, so I could try to decipher his drunk email.

HELP. I can’t do this forever, don’t want to be stuck.

Tell me it’s fake. I’ll pay you to make it look fake, I’ll do anything to get rid of them. I HATE them. Need them gone.

“Fuck me, Fox. Why don’t you just tell us what you really think?”

I handed Dawson the phone and watched as he read through the email and tried to hide the emotion from his face. “I’m going to go. I’ve got stuff I need to do at the office.”

“Oh yeah, doing the job you got because you were obsessed with me. Good luck with that. Once I tell Addi about our past, she’ll sack you in a second.”

Dawson moved to walk away, but Fox lunged forward, grabbing him by the shirt. I felt the shift in Dawson. “Get your hands off me,” he hissed.
