I carried my case down the stairs and left it by the front door with a plan clear in my mind; wait for Lea to wake up and tell them all about my past. They’d hate me and make me leave.

Curse broken.

Heartbroken.

I shook my head, refusing to admit how I felt about the three of them. I couldn’t… wouldn’t ever let myself go there again. My heart couldn’t take it.

Pulling on my cap that I’d taken from the side, I opened the French doors and stepped outside. Taking a seat on the bench, I tipped my head back and closing my eyes, letting the English sun warm my face. I loved the weather over here. The sun shone brightly, but the air was usually cool. There was dew in the early morning and the most beautiful sunsets at night. One minute it would be windy, the next raining. The unpredictability confused me in a good way and British peoplelovedto talk about the weather. And queuing. But mainly the weather.

I let out a loud sigh as I listened to the birds sing, while the London traffic reminded me just how close the road was to Fox's house.

“Is there a reason your bags are packed, Marshall?”

Her voice was low, each word punctuated by anger.

I pulled my hat lower, not answering, and then the enormity of the situation hit me. “What the fuck are you doing out of bed, Sugar?”

“I asked you first.”

I stood, but she shook her head, her face pinched as she walked slowly to the bench and sat next to where I’d been.

“We need to talk. Trust me, you’ll want me to leave afterward.”

“Are you going to tell me how you used to be an EMT, and you re-inflated my lung at the side of the road with a knife, a tube, and a bottle of vodka?”

I sat again, my mouth falling open. “How?”

She reached over, letting out a grunt, her injuries obviously hurting her as she lifted my cap from my head and turned it backward so I couldn’t avoid her gaze. “Nurses talk. Especially when you guys were all asleep.”

“I-we decided to wait to tell you everything.”

“But you saved my life.” Her hand cupped my cheek, and I leaned into her touch.

“Of course I did. We were already coming after you. To get you to come back.”

“Because of the curse.”

I shook my head a tiny amount, not wanting to lose her touch. “No, Sugar.”

“But you’re leaving? You want to leave? Even after what happened to me when I tried?”

“Do you think it was the curse?”

“Marshall, you’ve had us stuck togetherbecause of the cursesince New Orleans and now you’re going to walk away. Why?”

Her thumb moved rhythmically up and down my cheek, making the truth spill from my lips. “I don’t belong here.”

“What makes you say that?”

“You three are meant to be together. I’ve said that before.”

“But the last few months have been amazing. Are you not happy? Have we left you out or made you feel excluded?”

“No. But then there are moments… earlier. I left the room and when I got back, you were all wrapped around each other, fast asleep, looking like you were meant to be together.”

She dropped her hand, and I missed her instantly. “Did you not notice the huge gap we left for you?”

“What?”
