CHAPTER ONE

Aidan pushed his Armanisunglasses over his eyes as he stepped out of the private jet into the sunshine. The tropical scents of Hawaii made him smile as the heat melted away the January East Coast winter he’d just flown in from.

He began to descend the stairs toward the waiting vehicles.

Aidan had been in NYC when his cousin, Daniel, had offered him a seat on the Dufort jet. Given they were all headed in the same direction for Logan and Emma’s wedding, it made sense to accept the offer.

Global warming and all that.

He sent his own plane home to Philadelphia and joined them.

Aidan had been looking forward to escaping the cold, but there was also something, or rathersomeone, else he was looking forward to during the week he was spending on the Hawaii islands for this brother’s wedding.

A little sacrificial lamb if you like.

Or she soon would be.

Lily.

One of Emma’s bridesmaids.

“Hello, Hawaii, you beauty,” Harper declared from behind him in her kiwi accent. “I’ve missed you.”

“It’s been six weeks,” Daniel said, and they could all hear the eye roll in his voice.

“Six and a half,” Harper replied, winking at Aidan as she joined him on the tarmac.

“That’s about six hundred in Hawaii years for Harper,” added Kristen, her best friend, gripping the handrail and stepping down. Her husband, Jackson, followed.

“Well aware,” Daniel said and tossed his bag into the backseat of the SUV.

As they watched their luggage being unloaded from the plane and put into the vehicles, Fletcher and Olivia debarked the jet with their newborn, Baxter.

“Oh, my God it’s so gorgeous here,” Olivia said, holding her hand over the baby’s face.

“This is just the airport. Wait until you see... everything!” Harper declared.

“Jesus, someone should just give you the ambassador's job.” Daniel shook his head and leaned his elbow on the open door of the SUV. “Aidan, you coming with us, or Fletch?”

“Ah.” He took one look at Baxter, who was stirring, and made his mind up. Not that he had anything against babies, but Aidan was a bachelor, and playing house was something he was actively staying well away from.

For as long as he could.

Which wouldn’t be long if his father, Andrew Dufort, had anything to do with it. Which he didn’t, and yet the old guy had suddenly got on his case about getting married.

It was only a thirty-minute drive into Waikiki, so not a big deal, but when Harper and Kristen began hula dancing, Aidan decided the party was in their car.

“I’ll hitch a ride with our Hawaiian tour director,” Aidan said, grinning at Harper.

“Let’s go,” Daniel said.

“See you there,” Fletcher said, guiding his wife into the other car.

It was great to have his cousins back in his life.

They—meaning he, Logan, and their sister Amelia—had reacquainted with the three Dufort brothers at their grandmother’s funeral after more than two decades.

Their fathers had fallen out.
