She knew the answer.

Great sex and a rich boy wanting it all.

Well, Lily wasn’t a toy.

Maybe it was a good thing she’d had to leave so suddenly. There had been no long goodbye. No chance for him to talk her into seeing each other again, as Aidan had already been attempting, only to have her heart broken weeks or months down the line when she figured out what she had now.

Decision made, Lily promised herself she would text him later today and wish him well.

She climbed out of the Uber and headed inside the hospital. Her mom would still be there. She’d refused to leave.

Lily had picked up a bag for her on the way home last night. Matt had been kind enough to stop.

Gosh, he really had been nice.

Not only had he fed her and driven her home, but he’d also waited outside for her to pack a bag for her mom.

But he’d also taken liberties.

“Take as much time as you want,” Matt had said, reaching out a hand across the console and squeezing her leg.

Lily had flinched.

Instead of moving his hand away, Matt squeezed tighter and smiled at her. “Hey, it’s okay.”

No, it wasn’t.

She didn’t want him touching her.

It had been wrong before, but after being with Aidan and having the memory of his touch on her skin, she didn’t want anyone else touching her.

Yet Matt’s smile, almost condescending, had made her feel like she was making too big a deal about it.

“I’m here for you,” he continued, rubbing his hand on the spot. It was not high enough to be inappropriate, but it was borderline.

“Thanks, Matt,” she said, then when she turned to climb out of the car, he grabbed her hand.

“Come here,” he said, tugging her closer and hugging her.

Lily had just frozen and stared out the window as he held her. She hadn’t known what to do.

When Matt released her, she forced a smile onto her face before going into her mom’s place. “Thanks, again. I won’t be long.”

Because she needed her job.

Lily let out a sigh as she made her way through the maze of corridors to her father’s hospital room.

“Hey, Lilypop,” he forced out when she walked in the door.

“Hey, Dad.”

Her mom was curled up in the armchair in the corner. He lifted his finger to his lips, looking like it took all his strength, and wentshhh.

“Let her sleep,” he whispered.

Lily nodded and put the bag down on the ground. Then sat on the side of his bed.

“How was Hawaii?”
