“Maybe I like you because you don’t throw yourself at me.” He shrugged.
“So, I’m a challenge?”
“No Lily. You were not a challenge. I was in complete control from the moment I laid eyes on you. Don’t tell me you don’t know that.”
She swallowed.
“Then you left Hawaii and took a piece of me with you. I don’t know how or why. But there was this hole where you’d been.”
Okay, fine, so maybe he wasn’t going to hold back. The words just kept falling out.
“I’m going to marry you one day, Lily Peterson. Trust me, no one is more surprised by this than me. But I’m not going to live without you.”
Fucking hell.
It was like a dam had broken inside him.
Lily jerked back in shock.
“Aidan, that’s... no. You just...”
Then her phone rang, and now he’d never know what she was going to say.
“Mom?”
“Lily, come back now.”
Shit.
Her face broke, and he tugged her to her feet.
“Let’s go, baby.” Then they raced upstairs, and he stood in the doorway as Lily went to the other side of the bed and gripped her father’s arm.
Fifteen minutes later, he was gone.
I promise you, Mr. Peterson. I will love your daughter as much and for as long as she lets me. That’s my promise to you.
