“Probably not,”

Lily let out a sigh. “Nothing fancy. I’m a PA. But I want to be a teacher.”

She felt a little dumb talking to this phenomenally successful and intelligent man about her incredibly average career goals.

Emma had told Lily all about Aidan inventing a piece of technology that was so influential it was used in nearly every digital touch point in all their lives. She couldn’t conceive of doing such a thing.

Not many people probably could.

The truth was, she’d been surprised when she met him. He was a lot goofier than she expected someone with both a science and engineering degree to be.

But that was such a dumb judgment, and she hated herself for it.

“What’s stopping you?” Aidan asked.

Damn.

Lily didn’t want to have this conversation with him. There was no way he’d understand what it felt like not to have the financial means to achieve a dream.

But then again, what was the point of lying? None. And she wasn’t ashamed of helping out her family. Or getting a great PA job, which had been a great pay raise and promotion from her job at Martha’s.

Matt appreciated her, even if he was a little inappropriate at times and worked her hard.

Okay, fine, a little more than inappropriate.

The hand sliding over her ass in the elevator last week had felt very creepy. As if on cue, her phone texted.

It was Matt.

She knew because she had a special tone for his messages. She groaned and went to move to get her phone.

Aidan stopped her. “Who is that?”

“My boss. He has poor boundaries,” Lily said and was surprised to see a wild flash cross his eyes.

“What kind of boundaries?” he growled, taking her hip and turning her into him so they were facing. “Has he touched you?”

“No.”

Well, not the way you do, but I know he wants to.

“Tell me the truth.” Aidan sat up and peered down at her.

She flopped onto her back.

“He hasn’t. But he sort of tries. It’s fine. I need the job,” Lily said, and her eyes met his. “Look, I’m clearly not rich. I can’t just walk away from the job. I’m saving to go to college and until then I just have to put up with Matt and his occasional approaches.”

Aidan gripped her chin.

“You like him,” he said angrily.

“No, I don’t like him. He’s not horrible, but he is my boss. It’s just harmless flirting. It doesn’t go anywhere.”

“Fuck that. We’ll get you another job. Go work at Dufort,” Aidan growled. “I’ll tell Daniel to hire you.”

“I live in Chicago. Not New York.”

“Fuck. That’s right,” Aidan growled, then he pointed his finger. “You can move. Logan will find you something in Philly at his company.”
