“Give me the phone!” Aidan said. “This guy has no limits. What the hell time is it in Chicago? Barely breakfast.”

Lily had taken a step away, trying to catch her bearings.

“Lily Peterson, do you have a man in your room?”

Good God.I’m not fifteen, Dad.

“Wait. Just wait,” she said to both of them. Or maybe to herself.

She held up a hand and surprisingly Aidan halted, but she could see by the darkness in his eyes that he was very close to ripping the phone out of her hand.

“No,Dad,” she said pointedly and arched a brow at Aidan. He partly relaxed and took a step back, although she saw some disbelief. “It’s the TV. I sat on the remote.”

She moved further away and sat down in an armchair across the room as Aidan crossed his arms and glared at her.

That was fun.

“You scared me. Christ. I know you’re not a child, but you have to be careful when you’re traveling alone,” Gary said.

Alone?

She was surrounded by half a dozen enormous, powerful men. She was not in any danger. Well, except for the man sending daggers across the room.

Lily knew she was going to pay it on her ass.

“I’m not alone. I’m with Emma and Logan, and their family. Anyway, how are you feeling?” she asked. “Did Mom give you the meds?”

“Every day and every night,” her dad replied.

Aidan uncrossed his arms and moved to the sofa. He sat with his legs spread and she had wondered if men sat that way because of the large things between them.

Namely... well, she knew what she meant. And they were not things she should be thinking while talking to her dad.

As if he knew what her thoughts were, Aidan had smirked.

“... so I suppose we will wait for the test results, but it’s nothing to worry about.”

Lily suddenly snapped out of her lust. “What did you say? Dad, repeat that.”

“It’s mostly routine. Just because I’ve had a few breathing issues lately,” Gary said.

A heavy feeling laced through her.

“You knew. You knew before I flew over here,” Lily said, feeling the color drain from her face.

“Hey, kid. It’s fine. We’ve been through this before.”

Her stomach dropped.

“Lilypop,” Gary said, using her stupid childhood nickname.

Which she loved.

“Dad,” she said quietly and wished Aidan wasn’t here. Sitting on the edge of the seat, she kicked off her flip-flops. “I’ll come home. Tomorrow. Tonight.”

“No, sweetheart. Stay. Have fun. The results will be back on Monday, so there is nothing you can do, anyway. Emma needs you. This is an important milestone for her and your friendship.”

“She might get married again,” Lily said quietly, knowing he knew she was joking.
