“Hey. Oh, crap,” Lily answered, sounding flustered.

“Lily?” Aidan said, his heart thumping excitedly just hearing her voice.

“Damn. Missed the call,” she said. “Just hold this for me.”

Who was she talking to?

“Lily,” he called out as a rustling noise filled the speaker. “Lily!”

More rustling.

“Oh. Hi. What are you doing here?” Lily asked someone.

“I—” Aidan started, then realized she wasn’t talking to him.

Then he heard it. Or rather him.

“I had to come. To see if you needed anything,” the man’s voice said.

Aidan’s jaw tensed.

“That wasn’t necessary,” Lily replied quietly.

That fucker. Aidan knew who it was.

“Have you eaten?” the man asked and Aidan’s teeth ground painfully.

“Just a muesli bar from the machine,” she replied.

“Lily, Jesus. Come here,” the man said, and Aidan could almost see his outstretched arms.

“Fuck! Lily!” Aidan yelled. “Pick up the phone!”

“Let me get you something to eat,” Handsy Matt said.

He knew in his bones it was him.

“Matt, honestly, I’m not hungry,” Lily said.

Bingo.

He couldn’t listen to another word. Aidan ended the call and threw the phone onto the sofa beside him.

Then let out an animalistic growl and threw his head back.

“Fuck!”

If it was any other goddamn day of his life, he would jump on a plane and fly to Chicago right this minute.

The last thing he wanted was Matt taking advantage of Lily’s vulnerability right now.

Maybe he had no right.

Hell, maybe Lily didn’t need him or even want him, but there was no way he was going to sit back and let that creep manipulate her.

Aidan made a call to his assistant and had his jet fly to Maui, ready to head to Chicago tonight. After the wedding, he was heading to the Windy City.
