“Help. Get it off me,” I pant anxiously.

“Stay down,” a masculine voice growls.

“I can’t—” Breathe.

He—whoever he is—moves slightly. That’s when I see all the blood and let out a cry. There’s so much blood—an entire pool of it around Mia.

An anguished, ugly sound leaves my throat as I realize she’s dead. She has to be. No one can bleed that much and remain alive.

I can’t see, as Connor is throwing himself over her. Mia’s father, Joe Mancini, the mafia boss, lies beside her, lifeless.

“Izzy!” Sienna calls out to me.

Oh, thank goodness, she’s alive.

“Sen! I’m here!” I yell.

“Fuck,” the man on top of me mutters as Connor scoops Mia up into his arms and runs away with her. Mack, his security guy and best man, follows.

“What are they doing?” I cry out, panicked. “Don’t leave me!”

“Shit.” Nathan, one of the Mancini soldiers, grunts. “We won’t all fit in the chopper. Deck, take Isabelle,”

What?

Who is Deck?

Take me where?

“No,” I start to say as Nathan adds, “Get her out of here to somewhere safe and call Mack in forty-eight hours.”

“Got it,” Deck says from on top of me.

Gunfire continues around us and while I am beginning to realize thisDeckguy protected me, I am absolutely not going anywhere with him.

I start to wriggle to get away from him, but firm hands hold me.

“Sienna! Help”

“What? No, she needs to come with us,” she cries out.

Exactly.

“We need to move.” Deck says, lifting me like I’m a bag of potatoes. That’s when I realize he’s the gorgeous-looking gangster I smiled at while walking down the aisle.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Hey God, listen, I was just kidding when I said I wanted a gangster. It. Was. A. Joke.

If thereisa god, he or she knows the pledge I’ve already made.

Reluctantly.

So, I’m not in any position to order a dark-haired, broad-shouldered, bad boy with dazzling silver eyes.

Even if he is trying to kidnap me.

“Do as I tell you, and if anyone asks, my name is Dex. Got it?” he grinds out.
