“Well, he is old, and old age brings on sickness. Arthritis developed, then his mental health slowly started to creep on him, he got frail, then not enough nutrition eventually led to his malnourished state, and eventually he ended up in a coma because his health had declined so much due to the stress.” It sounded like a fair answer, and no one would think twice about something like this.

Unfortunately, our lives weren’t so simple. “I don’t think it was old age that got to your father.” Not after what was revealed to me.

“Anh, what are you getting at? If you’re trying to suggest foul play then I did look into that, but I’ve seen my father’s medical records. I also can’t find any kind of proof, even with all the lab tests to rule out poisons and shit. I want to think otherwise as well, but the medical side of me tells me otherwise. There is no proof, just old age, stress, and the conditions that come with it. I was very much in denial about his health, but I’ve learned to make my peace with it.” Her tone told me otherwise. She hadn’t accepted it, not fully. I could hear the reluctance in her voice. A part of her still doubted.

I intended to bring this up to her earlier before I got too busy, and I wanted to wait until tomorrow since it was late into the night now. But, since we got onto the subject, I saw no point in withholding.

So, taking her hand, I led her to my office, settling in my chair behind the desk with her comfortably seated in my lap.

“I’ve asked some of my people who work in the hospital to keep a close eye on your father, and they’ve noticed some discrepancies,” I said before opening a drawer at my desk, pulling out a manilla envelope. “One of the doctors who works for me took over your father’s care, and she found some interesting things when she combed through his chart.”

Angel opened the envelope and pulled out its contents, quickly skimming through them. “These are his chart notes, and I’ve seen them before.” Now she gave me a confused look like I was some delusional idiot. “This is such a big HIPPA violation, I hope you know that.” She informed me with a chuckle and roll of her eyes.

“Look at them again, carefully.” I watched as she went over the stack of papers again, this time taking her time with each page. It only took a few pages for the realization to hit her after flip-flopping between some of the sheets. “You were given a false chart, one that made it seem like nature took its course with your father. Did you ever find the timing of his condition to be odd?”

“Yeah, but... If my stepmother was behind all of this, then why the timing? It doesn’t make any sense.” She was upset and confused, and rightfully so. She had been duped this entire time.

“Your father was ready to divorce her from what we could dig up. Maybe she was becoming desperate. You and I both know what desperate people can do.” Divorce often led people to take drastic measures more often than not.

“No. She would have gotten half of his shit if they divorced, and he did talk to me about the idea of it, and she knew as well. She would have gained more in a divorce than if my father was gone. I don’t understand it though, because she knew that if my father were to become incapacitated then the title of head would fall to me.” Angel’s eyebrows furrowed together as she bore holes into the papers, deep in thought.

Reaching out, I took the papers from her and set them down on the desk before taking her hand in mine and rubbing the back of it with my thumb. “Well, maybe your father has the answers.”

“Unless you’ve gained magical abilities to jump into someone’s head, we’re not going to get anything from him anytime soon or possibly ever.” Now she looked at me like I had two heads.

Chuckling softly, I shook my head and opened the drawer again, this time pulling out a small fabric sack and dumping its contents onto the desk. “Your stepmother has been drugging your father to keep him in a coma. My men have been able to pickpocket these from the people administering medication to your father. They ran checks on what was administered against what was ordered, and these vials were never found on the order list.”

I had no idea what half of those bottles were, but I trusted my men when they told me they were drugs used to induce a comatose state and keep a person in a suspended state. Also, a quick Google search confirmed what they said as well.

No doubt Angel would know and recognize the drugs given her profession. It would seem I was right too because the look of realization and rage stormed within her dark eyes when she examined the various vials. “Con di dó. Tôi s? gi?t nó!” Damn, she must be really upset to switch her tongue like that, a habit of hers I had picked up over the past few weeks.

“I am going to assume that was a threat?” I could never figure out which language she is using half the time, let alone what she is saying.

Angel could speak four languages: English, Vietnamese, Cantonese, and Mandarin. I couldn’t discern between the two Chinese dialects, but I had gotten keen to know when she spoke Vietnamese. Apparently that was her native tongue from what she told me. Her mother was a Vietnamese woman, and her Chinese father grew up learning the language for business reasons. Since she was home with her mother, it came natural for her to learn and pick up Vietnamese. The other languages came later when her father pushed for her to partake in the triad business briefly. She could only speak the languages though, not read or write in them from what she told me.

“That bitch. I’m going to kill her.” She seethed, gripping at the vial in her hand. “I want the doctor too. I have many bones to pick with him.”

Is it wrong for me to be turned on right now? Seeing her fired up like this, ready to go wreak havoc, always made my member twitch in my pants. “Whatever you want, lisichka, I will make it happen.”

“I want the doctor.” Her sadistic eyes gained a dark edge to them while the corner of her lips tugged into a smirk. As much as she denied it, she had a sadistic side to her. Ironic given she was a nurse hell bent on doing good and easing the suffering of others. Yet, when it came to her enemies, she often liked to play with them too much. Although, true to her word, she would never outright kill, but everything else was fair game to her.

“Don’t worry, I’ll have the good doctor all tied up for you, lisichka.” Kidnapping someone was child’s play, and I could easily get away with it because of the hold and sway I had on the law enforcement and officials here in Nespin. I could kill nearly half the population and not spend a second in jail.

Giggling twistedly, she turned her body in my lap until she straddled me. “You’re the best,” she said with a dark grin, grabbing my face and kissing me deeply. The twisted fire within me flared to life when her lips touched mine. I shouldn’t be excited over the fact I just offered a man for her to torture, nor should I get excited at the thought of her enjoyment with torturing the poor man. God we were going straight to Hell for how fucked up and twisted we are.

“Tol'ko dlya tebya moya lyubov'.”

Only for you my love.

Although it felt too soon to let her in that far, I knew it in my twisted heart. I won’t ever let her go.

“Hm you know, I love it when you speak Russian, but I really hope you’re not cursing me or something.” She sighed softly with a smile on her face as her finger traced my lips.

“Never, only ever sweet things about you, darling. I wish I could say the same about you when you speak Vietnamese, but I know half the time it’s you giving me lip.” The attitude she had with her words made it clear she wasn’t saying sweet nothings to me. I found it a little too amusing and cute to punish her for it, for now.

“Oh come on, I say sweet things... Sometimes...” She admitted while averting her eyes from me.

“Am I going to have to start counting whenever I hear attitude from you?” It was a playful threat. I already had many reasons to punish her, not as if she didn’t give me enough reasons herself. Some might find it annoying, redundant, but I enjoyed her brattiness more than I cared to admit.
