“No.” Grant muffled the rest of Reuben’s words with his palm. “No confessing of crimes. If none of you have anything important to share, I suggest we get back to the game.”

As soon as I sat down, after receiving words of encouragement and support, my hands began to shake as what I’d just done hit me. My friends knew I was bi. They accepted me. My own family hadn’t accepted me for who I was, and yet these guys had, without question.

For the first time, I felt as if I truly belonged.

When everyone had left, I hung back. As soon as the door had closed behind Grant, Jordan was there, standing right in front of me. “Fuck. We just did that,” he breathed.

“Yeah. We did.” I still couldn’t believe it.

Moving back, he gave me a searching look. “Did you plan on telling them?”

I shook my head. “No, but you were being so brave and owning it. How could I hide the truth?”

“Do your parents know? I told Rory and my dad today.”

“No. Why should I tell them? They don’t accept me for who I am. I don’t want to give them more excuses to tear me down. I owe them nothing.”

“Good.” He leaned forwards, placing a kiss to the tip of my nose, and then instantly recoiled. “Shit. Sorry. Sometimes I forget we’re not on the island anymore.”

“Me too. Sometimes I just want—” My mouth brushed over his. “—to kiss you,” I finished, sliding my lips against his in a soft, slow caress.

“Don’t do this to me. I told you before that my willpower was running out.” Jordan backed me up against his front door, kissing me again. “It’s so fucking hard to treat you like everyone else after all we’ve been through. I need to get over you.”

“I know. Me too. If anyone found out—” My words were cut off by his thigh sliding between mine, his hands going down to my ass and yanking me closer.

“Theo. Fuck.” He kissed down my throat as my head fell back against the door, a groan falling from my lips.

The doorbell rang.

Jordan screeched into my neck as my body jerked at the sudden loud noise.

“Fucking hell.” Tearing himself away from me, he rubbed his hand over his jaw, then dragged his hand through his hair. “Fuck.”

The doorbell rang again. My heart pounding, I opened it because Jordan was making no move to.

Grant stood on the step. His gaze landed on me and then flicked to Jordan.

His eyes widened.

“Forgot my phone,” he said eventually. I stood aside to let him in. My heart was racing, and across from me, Jordan looked as if he was about to pass out.

When he returned to the door, Grant stared between us again, and then he sighed. “Don’t look so worried. I didn’t see anything.” He paused. “Unless there’s something else you want to share.”

“Nope. Nothing at all. Bye, Grant. Bye, Theo. See you at training.” Jordan pushed us both through the door. “Bye.” He shut it in our faces.

I glanced over at Grant, who was smirking. When he caught my eye, he laughed. “You two are going to cause us so much trouble. Good job I like you both.” He strode over to his SUV, whistling.

I slumped against my Aston Martin with a groan, closing my eyes.

Tonight, we’d set things in motion that couldn’t be stopped. I just hoped that we were prepared for the fallout.

A thought hit me then. If this had happened last season, I would have been relying on sleeping pills to get me through the night. But now, I was going to drive home, do my bedtime ritual—warm shower, cup of herbal tea, and a book—and then fall asleep without the use of artificial aids.

Jordan’s signing to my football team had set off a chain of events that I could never have imagined, but there was one thing I couldn’t deny.

My life was far better now.
