I placed my hand on his thigh, palm up, and he slid his fingers between mine.

“I love you, Knox,” I whispered.

The smile on his face widened. “I love you, too, Elena.”

Fixing my gaze on the road ahead, his hand still warm around mine, I reflected on everything that had brought us here. It had been a long, difficult journey, but we’d made it.
