“Something like that,” Nitro jumped in. “But that’s none of your business. What I’d really like to know is, why the hell you’re still in town?”

“I’m just trying to finish up the story.” I inched toward the Tahoe, my hands tingling with anxiety as the look on Nitro’s face shifted.

“Mmm,” he responded, narrowing his eyes at me. “I don’t know why you’re so worried about us. We’re just a couple of good ole bikers.”

“Of course you are. Nice seeing the two of you.” I gave them a nod, spinning and heading right for the Tahoe. I half expected him to grab me before I could open the door, but he didn’t. However, their laughterdidcarry into the Tahoe, even after I had shut the door.

Ugh. I’m making myself seem weak.

I started the engine and backed out, though not before noticing the two men getbackon their motorcycles. The sight sent my heart racing, unable to rationalizewhythe two would’ve gotten right back on their bikes.

But as I headed out of town, my eyes drifting to the rearview mirror, I realized it was no secret.

They were fucking following me.

I floored the Tahoe, getting some distance before making a hard right turn down a residential road, which was the opposite of where I needed to go. Unsurprisingly, the two followed me down the road, roaring up behind my SUV. I reached for my phone in the cupholder, unlocking the screen—like I evenknewwho to call.

Holding it in one hand, I weaved through the streets, the two Silent King bikers staying right on my tail.

They’re just trying to scare you.

Setting my phone back in the cupholder, I changed my tactic.

And brake checked them.

Their bikes went skidding to a stop only inches from the back of the Tahoe, the two of them flipping me off as I floored it, leaving them there. I took a couple of sharp turns, and much to my relief...

They were no longer in the rearview.

I pulled into the hotel parking lot, threw open the door, and nearly sprinted inside, rushing to the elevator. My heart was still pounding in my chest as I made it to my hotel room, shoving the keycard in the lock and pushing the door open. Taking a deep breath, I slammed the door shut behind me, instantly fastening the chain lock at the top.

“Everything is fine,” I said to myself, pulling my phone out of my bag. I took a seat on the edge of the hotel bed, scrolling to Vinny’s name. But before I could press the call button...

There was a knock at my door.

“What the hell is wrong with you?” I demanded as I entered Hannah’s hotel room, having just watched hersprintinto the hotel.

“What?” she squeaked as she slowly backed away from me.

“Hannah...” my voice trailed off as I recognized the fear in her eyes, the lion in me wanting to rip apart whoever did it to her. “What happened?”

She was silent for a few moments before plopping down on the edge of the hotel bed, her blue eyes turning suspicious. “How do you know where I’m staying?”

I shook my head. “Vinny told me. Why are you avoiding answering me?”

Her thick, plump lips pursed, before she blew out a sigh. “I was at the café today, and I had a nice interview with someone—”

“Who?” I barked, already hating the way she was dancing around thewho.

She startled, jumping slightly at the harshness of my voice. “Jesus, you don’t have to talk to me like that.”

I raised my eyebrows—this woman was achallenge.“Who were you interviewing, Hannah?”

“Just a woman from town.”
