Axle’s concern bounced around my head for days, making me wonder what the fuck I was doing—was there any point in pursuing Hallie? Could I be what she wanted? And what about her safety? Hedidhave a point about what the women associated with the club went through. Hannah was nearly murdered, and Linley was kidnapped…

I didn’t want anything to happen to Hal.

She wasn’t like those women. Linley was fuckingtoughworking in the trauma unit, and Hannah had already been exposed to the criminal world, but Hallie—myHal—how would she fair against the underworld? Yeah, she was a single mom raised by a mostly single mom, but the woman had never seen anything like what we deal with.

I should just let her go.

But the thought didn’t sit right as I sat on the clubhouse steps, watching the sunset. She was the one woman I had never been able to get over—and there hadn’t been anyone since her that ever held a candle to her. None of the women I fucked meant anything. All I did was picture her when I was between their legs, so I knew that the moment I let Hallie go, that was it for me. There was no one coming afterward.

But that would be better for the club.

My jaw tensed at the thought, knowing that ithadbeen a reason that I had stayed behind—though my dad was the real tie to Sans Verta.

And my fucking downfall.

Sadistic fuck of a doctor.

My phone vibrated in my vest pocket, and I welcomed the distraction. Everyone was sitting around, waiting to hear back from Hannah, who was supposedly talking to Bethany Johnston this evening after working relentlessly to track her down. I pulled the phone out, lighting up the screen since it had already gone dark. My heart jumped to my throat.

Are you busy tonight?

I stared at the text from Hallie, knowing that I should just fucking tell her that I was busy—that I didn’t have time to come and visit her, fuck her senseless.

But I couldn’t bring myself to do it, so I hit the call button beside her name instead.

“Hey?” She answered, sounding a little surprised. “I didn’t expect you to call. I haven’t heard from you since…”

“Yeah, I know. I just had a lot of shit to take care, and then time got away from me.”

“Yeah, for days.” She laughed, though I couldn’t pick out an ounce of humor.

“Sorry, Hal,” I said softly, the guilt hitting me. I had fucked her senseless and then just disappeared for a few days. God knew what she was thinking. “There’s just a lot going on.”

“Yeah, I get that…” The hesitation in her voice made my stomach sink.

I decided to take the jump. “Anyway, I’m not busy tonight. We’re just waiting around for someone to show up with some information. Do you need something?”

“Um, no, I guess I don’tneedanything.”

I couldn’t help but fucking smile at the way she said the words. “I’ll come over?”

“I wouldn’t tell you no…”

I laughed. “Okay, I can head that way now.” Despite knowing I’d be better off letting her be, my dick still grew hard as I got up. I knew what was coming—and there was no way any man wouldn’t get excited.

“Okay, that’s fine… But…”

“But what?”

“Do you think you could maybe just drive the truck? Your motorcycle is kind of loud, and I don’t want the neighbors to get upset.”

Or know that an outlaw biker is fucking your brains out.

“Yeah, I can take the truck.”

“Perfect. I have pizza.”

“Even better.” I chuckled, hanging up the phone. I let out a sharp breath, digging into my pocket for the keys to my truck. I preferrednottaking it, but if the woman wanted me to be quiet, that’s what I would do. My boots crunched on the gravel as I approached the truck, ripping the door open.
