I gasped, covering my mouth with my hands. "Oh my gosh, you didn't." I hadn't been there for that game.

The guys laughed. "He did." Matty nodded.

I shook my head, covering my mouth to hide my smile. "That's pretty funny."

"Not for me. Why don't we call it a night." Jake averted his eyes.

I looked down, hoping they couldn't see my disappointment in the glow of the moonlight. Being around all three of them was fun and easy. Jake squeezed my hand, reminding me I was on a date with him.

In truth, it didn't matter if I liked all three and all three liked me back. They were leaving. It was probably for the best because as much fun as I had with Jake, I couldn't pick just one of them.

"Let's at least race back to shore." Rex dove into the water and took off before we could reply.

I shook my head and raced after him. Matty and Jake were already closing in on him. I did my best to keep up, but all three were almost a foot taller than me. In height alone, they had the advantage.

When we reached the shore, I looked down, remembering how little I was wearing. I grabbed my clothes and quickly tossed them on, very aware of the three sets of eyes on me. Once I finished, I noticed they hadn't bothered to get dressed. They had their clothes in their hands and headed toward the vehicles.

Jake and I walked in silence, the moonlight casting a glow on our faces. He was so close that I could feel his breath on my neck. I wanted him to kiss me. I wanted him to taste my lips, to feel his body against mine.

I averted my gaze as he unlocked the door to his truck. I didn't want the night to end. My stomach turned as he drove me home.

"I had a really great time." He patted my thigh.

"Me too," I whispered.

He pulled up between my house and his. Frankie was home, shit. He was supposed to still be out on a date. If he saw me with Jake, he would flip out. Frankie never paid much attention to what I did but told me numerous times to never date his friends.

"I would walk you to your door, but your brother would fight me." Jake unclipped his seatbelt.

"Oh, I know." I grabbed the handle of the door.

Jake leaned over and pressed his lips against mine. Heat pooled between my legs, and I moaned into his mouth. His lips trailed down my neck, leaving tingles in its wake.

He pulled away and looked into my eyes, his gaze intense. "I really like you," he whispered, barely audible above the sound of crickets chirping in the night air. "I have to be honest. Matty and Rex are probably going to ask you out now. I just want you to know I don't mind."

I opened my mouth to respond, then quickly closed it. What did he mean by that? Was he giving me the okay to date all three of them?

My heart raced, and I opened my mouth to speak again, but he leaned back in for another kiss. This one was stronger than before. His hands grabbed my waist and pulled me closer until every inch of his body was against mine.

Just when things were getting heated, a light flicked on inside the house. Frankie must have heard the truck pull up! I quickly pushed Jake away, my heart racing faster than ever before.

"I better get out of here." I frantically grabbed my bag from the floor of the truck. "Please don't mention this to Frankie."

Jake nodded. I hopped out of the truck and made a beeline for home, not daring to look back.

CHAPTER6

Matty

I didn't haveany friends when I was a kid. It was too hard when I kept switching classes. The first time was when I was in first grade. The teachers made such a spectacle of it.

Mrs. Zonny stopped in the middle of teaching with an extraordinary announcement. She had me get up and pack up my cubby. "This is so exciting," Mrs. Z said, her dark eyes glinting like chips of onyx against her pale skin. All the kids stared at me.

Suddenly, the janitor entered the room and unceremoniously picked up my desk. For a moment, I was confident I was going to be expelled. Mrs. Zonny then had us all follow the janitor to another classroom. He placed my desk in its new spot and told me to sit there.

The teacher of that class informed everyone I was being moved up to a third-grade class because all my test scores were off the charts. Instead of congratulations, the other kids laughed and called me a nerd.

After that, I didn't bother making friends. Every time I tried, they thought I was too young or weird to play with. In an attempt to help me academically, my parents moved me and my little sister to a town with a fantastic school system.
