"Well, glad you are still kicking." He pulled me into a hug. I couldn't even wrap my hands around him.

"Since the party is officially here, and I mean me, let's do this." He pulled two beer cans from his pocket, cracked them open, and downed them. I watched in shock as Billy downed two beers in a matter of seconds. He belched loudly and handed me a can.

"Thanks, but I'm good," I said, pushing the can away.

"Suit yourself." He shrugged and popped open another can. "So, what's the plan for the day?"

"I thought we could go out on the boat," Frankie said, walking back into the room with Rachel at his side. "I rented one for the weekend."

"That sounds like a great idea." Jake clapped his hands together.

"Count me in," Rex said, finishing up his plate.

"I'll pass," I said, knowing that boats always nauseated me.

"Suit yourself," Billy said, taking another swig of his beer.

"Oh no, you are coming. I brought Dramamine." Sammy smiled as she entered the kitchen, the tension from her face now gone.

"Ugh, fine, but I'm bringing a book." I scooted off the stool.

We spent the day out on the lake, soaking up the sun and drinking beer. Rachel turned out to be a great cook, and she made us delicious sandwiches for lunch. She made sure to inform me all the carrots had been tossed.

As the day went on, everyone grew more and more relaxed. The guys started telling stories and cracking jokes, and Rachel and Sammy were chatting like old friends. I was still a little uneasy but glad everyone else was having a good time.

CHAPTER11

Mal

By the timeI got off the boat, I could barely stand. I wobbled as I walked back to the house. Swimming in the water was so different from being on a boat rocking around. As I stumbled back to the house, I realized I was drunk. The combination of the sun, the beer, and the motion sickness had taken its toll on me. My stomach turned, and my head spun.

"Hey, you okay?" Sammy walked beside me.

"I think I'm gonna puke." I grabbed her arm for support.

She led me to the bathroom, where I promptly threw up in the toilet. Her hand was on my back, rubbing soothing circles as I retched.

"That's it, let it all out," she murmured.

After a few minutes, I was done. I flushed the toilet and leaned my head against the cool porcelain. I felt awful, but at least the nausea was gone.

"You feeling better?" Sammy asked, handing me a glass of water.

"Yeah, thanks," I said, taking a sip.

"Good. You scared me for a minute there." She sat back on her heels.

"I didn't think I drank that much." I wiped my mouth with toilet paper.

The door opened, and I prayed it wasn't one of the guys. They had already seen me get sick enough for one lifetime. Luckily, it was Rachel. She held out a candy to me. "It's ginger. It should help."

"Thanks," I chewed on the candy. It tasted gross, but the turning in my stomach calmed.

"I gotta, uh, grab something. I'll be back." Sammy stood up and left.

The doorbell rang downstairs, indicating Harry and Donnie were probably here. "Come on, let's go down and join everyone," Rachel said, offering her hand to help me up.

I took it gratefully, still a little shaky. I quickly brushed my teeth before Rachel guided me downstairs. Together, we went to the living room, where the guys were hanging out with Harry and Donnie. Everyone turned to look at us as we entered.
