Jake smiled at me, his eyes warm and kind. "No problem, Mal. Just take care of yourself, okay?"

I nodded. "You guys are the best."

Rex and Matty grinned at me, their faces illuminated by the porch light. "We know," Rex said, ruffling my hair affectionately. "Now go get some rest. We'll see you soon."

Words fumbled out of my mouth, most of them incoherent. All of them were things I shouldn't have said. I wasn't even positive I had spoken out loud. "Hot, all of you, stay, be here." I tried inviting them in but couldn't fully get a sentence out.

"We should get her inside." Matty turned to his friends.

Jake whispered something that sounded vaguely like 'rules.' Words spun around my head, and sounds zoomed away from me. I was pretty sure I was already dreaming or on the verge of blacking out.

Rex nodded to me and walked back to the car. The other two followed him, and I watched them like a fool. For once, I had liquid courage and was too drunk to say what I had been trying to tell them for years.

I stumbled inside, both embarrassed and grateful. As I made my way to my bedroom, I couldn't help but be disappointed. They were always kind to me, but as Rex had said: they saw me as their little sister. It was hopeless to want anything more.

But as I collapsed onto my bed, I couldn't stop thinking about them. As much as I tried to convince myself it was just a childish crush, I knew it was more. They were all I ever thought about. I never had a boyfriend because no one had ever grabbed my attention the way they did. If I could get over them, I could find someone and stop being the only eighteen-year-old virgin in Western New York.

With those thoughts swirling around in my head, I drifted into a fitful sleep, my dreams filled with images of the three men and me tangled up in each other's arms. It was a fantasy I knew could never be a reality, but it made for one hell of a dream.

CHAPTER2

Mal

The following day,I woke up with a pounding headache and overwhelming regret. My embarrassing behavior from last night was fresh in my mind, and I cringed at the thought of facing Jake, Rex, and Matty again. Maybe I could manage to avoid them forever.

As I stumbled downstairs to the kitchen, I found my brother already there, sipping coffee and reading the newspaper. He had the same green eyes as me, but his hair was pitch black and was never out of place. Frankie took care of himself and always had the girls chasing after him.

"Morning, Mal." Frankie looked up from his paper.

"Morning," I grumbled, grabbing a glass of water and a Tylenol.

Frankie raised an eyebrow at me. "Rough night?"

I groaned, my head throbbing. "You could say that."

Frankie chuckled, his eyes crinkling with amusement at my disheveled appearance. "Well, at least you had fun, right?"

I scowled at him, not in the mood for his teasing. "It wasn't that fun."

Frankie shrugged. “If you say so. Did you see Jake, Rex, and Matty last night?"

"Um, I mean, yeah. They were at the party. I had to leave," I said, plopping beside him.

"They left without saying anything to me. I saw Rex and Matty talking to Sammy. Maybe one of them left with her." He shook his head. "It's not my business, and I know she is your best friend, but she chews up guys and spits them out."

Shit, Sammy. I grabbed my phone and went to text her.

There was already a message from her.

Sammy

I really hope you banged them

Did not. See you at work

I'm disappointed. I hooked up with some rando last night. I'll tell you all about it later.

I grabbed my face and squeezed. Of course, she did. I was still a virgin, but she was always having sex. If I had a touch of her confidence, I wouldn't be such an awkward weirdo. There was also the slight problem that I was infatuated with three men who were off-limits.
