"Can I take you out?" I asked. " I mean, like an actual date."

"Really? Why?" Mal kicked at more gravel.

"Remember that day you fell through my window?" I grabbed her right arm and ran my fingers along the three scars.

"Yeah, thirty-five stitches. How could I forget?" She pulled her arm away and covered the scars.

"I should have hung out with you that day. You're Frankie's sister, and man, just having you in my bedroom caused problems with him."

"So you wanna hang out now?" Mal bit her lip, and it took everything in me to not kiss her.

"Yeah."

"Okay."

"Cool. Let's go back in. Rex and Matty probably thought we left." I tossed my arm around her and led her back into the bar.

When we returned, Rex and Matty were still at the bar. They had drinks in hand and looked up when they heard us. "Where have you two been?" Rex asked.

"Just out for a walk," I said, pulling out a chair for Mallory to sit on.

We took a seat, and I ordered Mal a soda. She had no intention of drinking again anytime soon. We talked about school and our plans for the summer as we sipped our drinks.

I was so distracted by Mal that I barely talked. I could only stare at her, smile, and nod to everything she said. When she laughed and tossed her head back, the urge to grab her and pull her into the bathroom to make out was overwhelming. I wanted to see her firm breasts and touch her smooth skin.

After hours of drinks and laughter, Mal looked at me and said, "Frankie is going to kill me if I don't get home on time."

"Yeah, I should head back as well." I took a long drink of my beer.

We all stood and said our goodbyes. "I'll see you guys tomorrow," Mal waved awkwardly as she headed toward the door.

"See ya," I said, the disappointment in my voice evident.

I watched her walk away and noticed how her hips swayed back and forth as she moved. I wanted to grab them, pull her back to me, and squeeze. I had to remind myself that she wasn't mine. But I wanted her. I wanted her more than anything in the world.

CHAPTER4

Mal

My bed was piledhigh with at least twenty dresses and multiple shirt and pant combinations. What was I supposed to wear? Jake told me to dress casual, but not too casual. What did that even mean? Were jeans and a T-shirt too sloppy? Would a dress be too formal? Ugh.

I needed help. I grabbed the phone and called Sammy. She lived a few blocks away and rushed over. The girl was always great for a fashion emergency.

Sammy walked into the house without knocking. It was a sign of true friendship. Even when my dad was home, she just walked in. My dad usually wasn't home. This time, he was out of town on a business trip, and my brother was at work, so we would be left alone to debate what to wear.

"So, what's going on?" She sat down on my bed with an air of confidence.

"Jake asked me out." I held up a dress, eyeing myself in the mirror.

"What? Finally! Tell me everything. Did you blow him yet? Will his other two hunky friends be joining you?" Sammy flopped back onto the bed, her heels digging into the mattress. "Do you think Jake will bang you from behind while Rex and Matty watch? That would be so hot!"

"Stop it." Heat rose to my cheeks. I tossed a pink sundress at Sammy.

"I'm just saying." Sammy flung the dress to the floor. "I would do anything to have three men doting on me."

"Who wouldn't?" I laughed. "Anyway, can you help me? I don't know what to wear."

"If I was going on a date with Jake Matthews, I would wear nothing," Sammy laughed.
