“Callahan is pregnant.”

Jasper’s smirk fellinto a gasp. “What? Uh, what did you just say to me?”

“I ran into her today on campus. She’s definitely pregnant.I couldn’t hear the baby’s heartbeat, it’s too early. But I can tell, man.I can always tell. She’s maybe four weeks?”

Jasper didn’t doubt his packmate’s ability to notice the changes in Callahan’s body. It wasn’t the first pregnancy Riley had confirmed before it washumanlypossible.

Riley was the first to know Corey was pregnant with Hadley. Thatwas how he’d discovered his supernatural talent. He’d honed that skillto a sciencewith every new pregnancy in their pack. Callahan’s baby wasn’t Jasper’s though, it couldn’t be, there was no way.

“It’s not mine.I was with herno more thantwo weeks ago. Shemust’vealready been pregnant when I banged her.” It was a good thing Jasper didn’t have Riley’s ability. Hewasn’t sure hewould’vebeen able to go through with it if he’d known she was knocked up. “That’s a weird thought, huh? Fucking someone else’s baby momma.”

Riley’s forehead wrinkled for a moment, and then his eyes got all big and serious again. “That’s not at all how pregnancy timing works. She’s maybe four weeks pregnant, that means she got pregnanttwo weeksago. Which was exactly when she stayed the night here.”

Jasper’s head cocked to the side. “How does that make any sense?

Riley blinked, incredulous. “Next semesterI’menrolling you in a human biology class.” He grabbed Jasper’s laptop, opening it and bringing up the calendar they’d shared all semester for school and baseball schedules. “You start counting on the first day of the last period. A cycle is four weeks, you ovulate in the middle of the cycle usually around day—”

Jasper snorted when he saw Blake had labeled the night Callahan had slept over asCallahan’s lapse injudgment.“Okay, I promise I’ll take the biology class. Getto the point you’re trying to make.”

“Unless she was with someone else the same weekend, that baby is definitely yours.” Riley shut the computer and tossed it beside him on the bed, the finality of it jarring inside Jasper’s skull.

With someone else? That didn’t sound like Callahan.

She wasn’t that type of girl, was she?Heshould probably stop making assumptions about the kind of person she was. Itwasn’tas if he took the time to get to know her. But then again…No. He knew the answer even if he wished like hell he didn’t. That meant the baby…

“Nope.”

“Jasper.”

He shook his head, unblinking. “No, thank you.”

Riley let a few moments of silence stretch between them before leaning forward and getting in front of Jasper’s catatonic stare. “Are you okay? You went all pale, are you going to puke?”

“Nuh-uh.”

Riley’s eyes narrowed. “You aren’t going to puke or you’re not okay?”

“No way.”

“Mmmm’kay.” Riley leaned back on one hand, taking out his cell and starting a puzzle game. “I’m going to just, uh, I’m going to sit right here, and when you’re ready to talk this out, you let me know. I’m here for you, buddy.”

Talk this out?How the hell was he supposed to talk anything out when his brain was having trouble accepting the situation could possibly be real?

His skull felt all tingly and his vision started to blur at the edges. He willed his lungs to keep working, his heart to continue to beat. Dying in this moment would be badand not something he could come back from.

He was careful, he was always careful. He didn’t want to hurt anyone, andhesure as fuckdidn’t set out to ruin anyone’s life.Yet, thatwas what he’d done, right?

Callahan would be tied to him for the next eighteen years. At least. She’d be forced to raise a kid with him and watch as he met his true mate and settled down.Ifshe wanted to keep the baby.

Did she want to keep it? Did he? Jasper wanted kids one day, he did. When he pictured his future family though it was children with his mate, with his forever. This wasn’t how it was supposed to go.

Thiswasnotsupposed to happen to him. To her. To them.

He finally found his voiceand whispered, “How is this possible?”

“Well—”

“I know how it happened.” He got to his feetand startedpacing in front of his bed. “I mean, how is itpossible? I’m a shifter. Shitlike this doesn’t happen to us. I wascareful. Andshe’s not my mate.
