C:My plans changed. Youstill want to meet up tomorrow after thefinal?

J:Yes

His response came immediately and she wondered if his phone had been open already.

J:Thanks again for helping me. This is the most confident I’ve felt going into a test. Ever.

She enjoyed tutoring people, and she’d felt incredibly guilty when she’d turned him down the first time he’d asked her about the study club. She’d seen him in class flirting with girls and laughing with Blake. It didn’t seem like he took himself or the class seriously.

Why would she want to help someone who wasn’t helping themselves? Not to mention he had a reputation around campus. Onethat promised he was after one thingand one thingonly, and once he got it you’d never hear from him again.

Apparently, he was worth the good time because girls flocked to him like flies to honey. That wasn’t who she was. Definitelynot who she ever wanted to be. Another notch on some hot guy’s bedpost? No thanks. She couldn’t deny her attraction to him though. He was gorgeous. But it’d beenhis eagerness to grasp the material that made her take notice.

And the way his whispered recitation of Shakespeare felt against her skin.

C:You’re welcome. And it’s a group thing, right? Blake and Riley will be there?

J: Yeah. Don’t worry Callie, your virtue will be safe and sound.

She frowned, re-reading his words more than once.

C:I’m not worried about my virtue.

She had complete control over herself and her actions. Sure, Jasper was handsome and charismatic with a long list of qualities that seemed to make the girls on campus fall all over themselves for a chance to be with him. Her convictions were stronger than his magnetism.

J:Aren’t you tho? You refuse to be alone with me.

This was the side of Jasper she wasn’t a fan of. The side that said he knew his effect on most women and he found it adorable.

C:I refuse to be alone with you because I don’t want thatoverinflatedhead of yours getting the wrong idea. This isn’t a date.I won’t be spending the night in your bed, and I don’t want you thinking otherwise.

There. The truth all laid out. He couldrescindhis invitation to go out if he wanted to, but she refused to play his games. She wasn’t a conquest. Shethought more highly of herself than that. He turned her on, he did. He made her yearn for his touch, that was true. Every desire wasn’t meant to be acted on though.

J:Damn Callie baby, you go right for the throat, huh? I can respect that. This is definitely not a date (I don’t date),and I know you won’t be spending the night (no one does).I’llbe on my best behavior, and I give Riley and Blake permission to kick my ass if you ask them to.

Callie baby. She didn’t love it. She refused to admit that to him though. Shefigured he’d keep using the nickname to get a rise out of her. Jasper was like a seven-year-old boy on the playground, getting girls’ attention by jokes and veiled flirtation.

C:See you tomorrow. Goodluck on your test.

J:You too.

She clicked off her bedside lamp, snuggling under the covers with only the light of herKindlefor company.

She knew what she was doing, she was a smart girl. She could go out and have some fun without letting things get out of hand. Her parents raised her to be responsible, sensible, and virtuous.

In short, they raised her to be everything that Jasper was not.

Chapter Six

Jasper

Jasper hadacedthetest. Nodoubt in his mind. He actually enjoyed taking it too. Writing his opinion on the sonnet was fun. Once he understood what the flowery words meant, he found he had a lot of thoughts he wanted to share.

He hit submit on his tablet, standing and stretching his tight muscles and looking around for Blake and Callahan. They were both gone, so he headed up the stairs and out of the large lecture hall. Riley was coming to meet them and then the four of them were going out for drinks. That’s what Callahan agreed to, so that was the game plan.

He’d basically had to beg Blake to be his buffer again. She demanded he take her house chores for two weeks and do two loads of her laundry. Joke was on her. Hesent his laundry out.

Riley, Blake, and Callahan were standing near the front entrance waiting for him. “Well?” Callahan smiled expectantly when she saw him, which made his heart sing, just a bit.
