Cap:Yeah.

Killian:You got your answer?

Cap:I think I did, yeah. I hiked up to our spot above the lake with a six-pack. I told him about you and Jilly, about how great Bent was doing. I told him about Caroline and the baby, and how I was feeling. I let it all pour out.

Killian:You don’t have to tell me the details. The things we say to the people we’ve already lost, it’s personal.

Cap:It’s all personal at this point, right? My first text to you was personal as hell.

Killian:I don’t want you to feel obligated to tell me anything. I gave you some advice. What happened after is none of my business if you don’t want it to be.

Cap:I was strung out. I’d cried so hard and said so many things to Dicer, I felt emotionally drunk. Like out of it. But then, Jilly’s dad called. He said he’d had dinner with Caroline a couple weeks ago, and he was excited about the baby. We talked for a bit, and then before we hung up, he said Dicer would be so happy to know that she’s not alone, “that she has you.”

Killian:That’s one hell of an answer, man.

Cap:Dicer was a hell of a guy.

Killian:What now?

Cap:I don’t know. But a weight’s been lifted off my chest. I feel like I can breathe a little deeper.

Killian:Good. So, you told him about me and Jilly, huh?

Cap:Yeah. He told me I should kick your ass for buying his baby sister vibrators and then making her fall for you.

Killian:They weren’t vibrators. But that’s fair.

Cap:Dicer would love you. As much as it pains me to admit, he’d think you were really fucking cool. And he’d be happy for Jilly.

Killian:I swear I’ll do right by her.

Cap:I know you will. If you don’t, Bent and I will break your nose. And then decades from now, when you die of old age, Dicer will sucker punch you as you walk through those pearly gates.

Killian:I would deserve nothing less.

Bentley + Killian

Bentley:I got a decision to make, my dude. Can I run something by you?

Killian:Always.

Bentley:That girl I started dating, we’re getting kind of serious. Like, I have dinner scheduled with Cap and Jilly next week so they can meet her serious.

Killian:Wow.

Bentley:We both graduate this semester, and she has this amazing job opportunity lined up in Washington. She asked me if I’d want to move with her.

Killian:Whoa. How do you feel about that?

Bentley:Excited. Nervous. It’s so far away, you know? We’re all still grieving in our own ways, we lean on each other so much. Plus, now Caroline and the baby. I don’t know if it’s the right time. I don’t want to leave everyone when they need me most.

Killian:I get that, one hundred percent. But they love you. Cap, Jilly, Caroline—they’d all want you to be happy. And if this girl is the one, then they’ll support you all the way.

Bentley:I love her. She’s amazing. She’s beautiful and hilarious, and she’s so ambitious. I’ve never dated anyone like her. She makes me feel like I can do things, you know? Like I’m capable of achieving so much.

Killian:Life is short. There’s nothing wrong with following your heart. You’d want the same for them, right?

Bentley:Of course.
