“Why not? What’s the worst that could happen?”

“I don’t know.” I hated breaking the rules.

“Do you want to get that test or not?”

“Alright, let’s do it.”

I went to the bathroom first, and then Julie met me in the bathroom. From there, we held each other's hands and confidently strode through the kitchen, like we knew where we were going. When someone came after us saying we couldn’t be back here, we sprinted until we found ourselves bursting through a door and into a back alley.

“Holy shit.” I breathed as we trotted down the alley and back onto the main street.

“Wow, you’re such a rule breaker.” Julie teased, linking her arm through mine.

We quickly found our way to the corner drugstore, and I purchased the pregnancy test. Julie whisked me into the dirty bathroom. She stood in the stall with me while I peed.

“How do you feel?” She asked, concerned.

“Nervous.”

She nodded.

“I don’t know what I want. I’m not sure what Damian will say, but I don’t think it would necessarily be the worst thing in the world if it was positive. Is that weird?”

“Not at all.”

I took a deep breath and looked at the stick. “Moment of truth. You look first.”

She covered her mouth with her eyes twinkling.

“I’m pregnant?” I said in a daze as I took the stick from her.

Two daunting little pink lines, and I wasn’t sure if it was the beginning of something beautiful, or if it was the catalyst to something terrible.

“I’m gonna be a mom.” I breathed, with eyes teary.

DAMIAN

I droppedAddison off outside the restaurant, feeling the strings of my heart pulling. These last few weeks, she had been someone I’d come to realize I deeply cared about. It was more than just sex and her delicious, scrumptious body. My world was starting to revolve around her, and her happiness, and whether or not she was safe and content.

She had agreed to go along with the fake engagement for the time being. It was good press for me, and it was just one more barrier between her and her ex. We’d decided that we’d carry on until it was good for both parties to call it off. But seeing her walking around with that ring on her finger. I’d grown to like what it felt like to call her mine, and for other people to know that she was off limits. I felt a fierce possessiveness over her.

I sat at the bar across the street with a clear view of the front door of the bar Addison was in. I could see Mike sat parked directly in front. Suddenly, Carter strode through the doors and quickly found his way over to me.

“Finally making time to see your best friend.” Carter slapped me on the back as he found his chair across from me.

“Ah, I know. It’s been busy.” He was right. I’d been far too consumed with this deal, and all the ups and downs with Addison, and I hadn't been over in quite some time.

“Your God daughter Charlotte misses you.” He said.

“I’ll come by soon.” I promised him. “Are Sarah and the baby doing well?”

“They’re doing great. Everything is just fantastic. I’m happier than I thought was possible.”

I took a sip of my whisky. It burned a path down my throat. “I’m happy for you man, I’m really happy for you.”

“So when were you going to tell me you were engaged? Going to pop out one of your own soon?”
