ADDISON

“What?”I snapped.

Damian pounded on the door. “Are you alright? Let me in.”

“Leave me alone.” I groaned, leaning against the cool bathtub. If the stick in the drug store bathroom hadn’t been enough to tell me, the morning sickness had. I had spent the last few days holed up in the spare room at Damian’s, feeling sick as a dog. The morning sickness had been brutal, and I felt incredibly weak. Occasionally, Mary Anne would bring me up a tray of food, but besides that, I’d kept the door locked and had been hiding from Damian since I found out.

After I knew for sure that I was pregnant, I just wanted a few days to process everything. To figure out when and how I was going to tell Damian. I had no idea how he would feel or what he would say. When he had brought me the pregnancy test at my apartment, I hadn't gotten a strong read on how he felt. We weren't even officially a couple. The way he looked at me made me melt, and he claimed I was his, but really we were just fuck buddies that sometimes got along, and sometimes bit each other’s heads off.

I had mostly forgiven Damian for buying my building out, but I certainly hadn’t shared that with him. For all he knew, I was still pissed at him. That’s how we’d been carrying on between our horizontal cardio sessions, anyway.

Being pregnant… Well, it was big news, and I just wanted to sit with it for a bit, see how I felt.

“I’m coming in.” I heard him through the bedroom door. It was suddenly quiet for a moment, and then the door unlocked with a click. I leaned on the tub, not sure if I was going to be sick again or not.

“What’s the point of having a lock on the door if you’re just going to bypass the whole thing?” I grumbled.

“You’ve been holed up in here for days. What’s going on? Are you sick again?”

I stood up and steadied myself on the counter.

“Yes, I am. What do you want, Damian?”

“I want to know what the hell is going on? Ever since you went out with Julie, you’ve been a complete recluse.”

I chewed my lip hard for a moment as I looked up at his scowling face. I had mulled over what the specific words would sound like coming out of my mouth, what exactly I would say to him. I had also played out the variety of different responses I might get from him. But the truth was, I had no idea what to expect.

“I need to talk to you.” I finally said.

“Well, that’s good, because I need to talk to you.” He snapped.

“You do?”

“Yes.” He looked at me steadily. “What’s going on? Are you ill?”

“You first.” I jutted back with curiosity.

He flexed his jaw and then his eyes softened as he looked at me. “I don’t know what happened to you in the last few days. But I need you to know I care about you deeply. I don’t like it when you sleep down the hall.” His jaw flexed. “Addison, I need you. I need you like I need air to breathe.” His eyes flicked down to my stomach, and my neck flushed. He was looking at me with such intensity, like he knew already.

The butterflies blossomed in my heart. “You do?” I whispered.

“I want you to meet my family and friends, and I want to meet yours. I don’t just want you in my bed, I want you in my life.” He rolled his eyes. “Though coming back to my bed would be a nice start.”

I tried to steady my breathing as his love confession poured out.

“You’ve been mine from the start, love. I want you to want to be mine, and not for show, not for fake protection or publicity. I want you for real. All of you.”

“You do?” I felt like my heart could burst out of my chest. Damian was saying every little word I wanted to hear. Damian wanted me. All of me.

I threw my arms around his neck.

“So is that a yes?” He wrapped his strong arms around me with a chuckle.

“I’m pregnant.” I whispered into his ear, and emotion overcame me, and my eyes welled up with tears.

He pulled me back, his eyes misting over. “I know, love.”

“But how–”
