“She’s already back,” Beth said. “Mama said she moved into one of Hank’s condo’s downtown. I was planning to stop by and see her after Christmas.”

“This has to be a hard time of year for her,” Anne said. “The anniversary of her parent’s death. And no one to spend Christmas with on top of it. You should invite her here, Hank.”

Hank’s brows shot up and he felt a slight panic at the suggestion. “Me? Why me? I’ve only met her once.”

“Don’t be ridiculous,” Anne said, flicking him again with the towel. “She works for O’Hara Construction now. That means she’s one of the family.”

Hank sighed. His mother had that look on her face that meant there was nothing anyone could do to sway her otherwise. “Fine, I’ll invite her. Can I go fix the boiler now?”

“Be my guest,” Anne said. “And thanks for shoving that devil turkey into the oven for me.”

Hank chuckled as he put his gloves back on and headed out the back door and into peace and quiet.
