No one was going to save me.

Why hadn’t I stayed with Killian at the estate? Why had I left?

God damn it. Of all things to make the wrong decision about…it had to be this.

Amity shoved me to the back of the car and lifted the boot.

“No, please. I’ll be okay. Just let me sit in the car.”

“Does it look like I’m the same Amity from school?” she asked me. “You are collateral right now. You aren’t even human to me. Get in or I’ll shoot you.”

I got into the boot, and she shoved my knees in at an odd angle before she shut the lid. I wanted to scream but I knew that would do no good.

The car hummed to life and we were taking off.

Off to my doom.

KILLIAN

I stoodin the dining room, looking down at my brothers, feeling the fury rise. I’d never felt so red hot angry at them before, not even when we’d been younger and had close to hated each other.

“You let her go.”

Lorcan stood up and I turned my attention to him. “I drove her to the town. She wanted to get back to her life, Killian. It’s not her fault you can’t control one pissed off woman.”

My fist balled and I clocked him in the jaw. He barely moved from the action, but he also didn’t retaliate.

“Feel better?” he asked me, as he turned his head back to me.

“Not in the slightest,” I replied. Conor stood up, the little weasel, and tossed back the rest of his whiskey.

“Tee might know where she went. I’ll ask her.”

He left the room before I could launch across the table at him. My head was pounding, my chest was twisted up. I felt like I couldn’t breathe.

“Sloane didn’t want this life, Killian. You let her walk away all those years ago, why can’t you let her live her life now?”

“I can, and I will,” I told him. “But I can’t have her hurt because of some bitch having issues coming to terms with the guilt over her husband’s death.”

“Guilt?”

“Yes,” I said. “She’s guilty because the night he died, she was with me.”

Lorcan groaned, the same disapproving look Dad had when I’d done something stupid appearing on his face. Some days, he looked just like him.

“Jesus, Killian,” he said, almost under his breath but I heard him clear as day. “Can you control your dick for just a few hours?”

“It’s not my fault women want it,” I shot back at him, annoyed he was making this my fault. “You could blame fucking Conor, he’s the one who walked into an ambush that caused this shit.”

“When you went over there to tell her…what did she do?”

“A lot of crying, a lot of wailing,” I told him. “Then she took her clothes off and mounted me.”

“So she slept with you after as well?”

I shrugged. “Nothing out of the norm for me. She’s a fiery minx. She cried after it as well. That was when it got weird.”

“No shit,” Lorcan spat. “She was fucking grieving and you took advantage of her.”
