I sidle up to the chair next to him where my plate awaits and bend to place a kiss on his cheek. He turns at the last second to catch my lips with his, sending a roll of flutters through my middle.

When I pull away and glance across the table, I’m keenly aware of the jealous edge to Elio’s glare. They might share me according to my wishes, but it’s no secret that they would much rather have me to themselves.

I can’t deny the tiny bit of satisfaction I feel at his jealousy either. The way his eyes harden and his jaw steels is enough to kickstart a throb between my thighs, and I dare to entertain the thought of him fucking me on the heavy, wooden table between us.

“Good evening, Princess,” Elio says as I take my seat, his voice dripping with lust. Something tells me the same image of railing me on the table also crossed his mind, and heat rushes to my cheeks.

In all my time here, none of the men have ever shared me. Aside from the blowjob I gave Azarius when he staked his initial claim on me to save my life, none of them have even sat by and watched. What would it be like to have Elio take me in front of Azarius or vice versa? What would it be like to have them together?

I swallow hard and quickly change the subject to stop the onslaught of filthy thoughts.

“What were you boys whispering about?”

They exchange looks silently as I reach for my fork and poke at the chunk of foreign meat on my plate. It smells delicious, but I learned a long time ago to not ask what I was eating—I might not want to know the answer.

“Business,” Elio says shortly.

I purse my lips, the answer prodding my nerves. I know what business means—It’s none ofmybusiness. That’s normally what they say when they don’t want me to ask questions.

They share vital information with me, but most things are kept secret. If I’m ever captured by the Malevs—which nearly happened months ago, despite my mens’ best efforts to protect me—it would be all too easy to force answers out of me. Therefore, I’m kept in the dark about most things.

I don’t mind. Politics bore me, regardless of what realm I’m in.

But it would be nice to be trusted with a little information here and there, especially considering I live here now and I'm not going anywhere.

Thankfully, Azarius seems to read my mind, because he shifts in his seat. “She’ll find out sooner or later, Elio. We might as well let her in on it.”

One eyebrow arches up my forehead. “Find out what?”

A tense pause of silence passes before Elio sighs, running his coppery fingers through his dark hair.

“We spotted some Malevs on our rounds this morning,” he explains, shifting his eyes to meet mine. “They weren’t super close, nothing to be alarmed about, but we were discussing going to visit Ignatius. He hasn’t come back to put up more wards around the woods since the last attack.”

“Wasn’t he supposed to do that a while ago?” I cock my head to the side.

Azarius nods gravely. “Yes, and that’s what we were discussing. It’s not like him tonotshow up. If he says he’s going to do something, he’s normally pretty good about it. We’re debating paying him a visit to see what’s taking so long.”

My stomach turns thinking about our last trip to the city of Havec where Ignatius lives. We made it in one piece without alerting anyone of my presence, but it was stressful as hell. There’s no promise that we can make it there and back again without running into some kind of conflict.

“When?” I ask, trying to sound braver than I feel.

“When Rafe gets back,” Elio assures me. “That way he’s here to watch you and you aren’t left alone.”

Watch me.

The words leave a bad taste in my mouth and have me chewing the corner of my lips in annoyance. As if I’m some kind of child who needs a babysitter, but I know what he means. I’m a sitting duck here at the mansion by myself and absolutely no match for a Malevolent, much less a swarm of them. Especially without the training I need to harness the little bit of magic in my veins, which might not even be enough to use in combat. I’m useless.

But I don’t bring up any of that or agree with Elio.

Instead, I counter with, “So take me with you.”

Azarius inhales his drink and sputters a cough and Elio shifts uncomfortably in his seat.

“Devyn,” he says, his voice taking a serious tone. “It’s dangerous, way more dangerous than the last time we went to Havec. The Malevs are mobilizing, swarming the lands. We can’t put you in harm’s way like that—”

“So leaving me here alone with Rafe is a better option?” I ask, my eyes narrowing. “He might be powerful, but he can’t handle an entire demon mob by himself.”

“True, but at least you’d be hidden,” Azarius argues. “We wouldn’t be parading you around the realm asking for trouble. Here you’d be s—”
