“I don’t see that happening.”

“No, not now. But trust me, I’ve been doing this a long time. You will. Someday.”

He doubted it.

“Look, Patricia and I made it work when she married Ken. We spent the major holidays and boys’ birthdays together.”

“The kids’ birthdays, yes, but then when they got older you started alternating holidays.”

The whole premise of this was pissing him off.

“Fine,” he snarled. “When he’s ten, we can alternate holidays if that’s something she decides she wants to do.”

Larry made a few notes, then closed his leather portfolio. “We’ve covered the major points. I think we’re ready.”

Whoopee.

“Can I go then? My secretary is watching Sawyer, and I want to get back to the office.”

“Sure. Just keep your phone handy in case there’s a problem.”

Maverick couldn’t imagine there would be a problem, but agreed to be available if needed. Then he stormed out of the office, running into his gorgeous, soon-to-be ex-wife on his way to the elevator. She looked beautiful, as always, dressed in a lime green and black silk blouse, black pencil skirt with a slit up the side, and black strappy heels.

“Are you leaving?” she asked.

“Yeah, I’ve told my attorney my non-negotiables. You and I have discussed them, so you already know what they are.”

“I think you should stay for this meeting. I added a few things we hadn’t discussed and they might be sticking points for you.”

He felt his blood pressure spike.

“Why would you do that, Olivia? I thought we had a deal.”

She shrugged. “I decided these were important.”

“If it’s about money, I don’t care. Larry already knows you can have however much you want.”

She shook her head. “It’s about custody.”

Oh fuck no.

He felt she’d just stabbed him in the back. They had an arrangement, dammit.

“Just come back and hear what I’m proposing,” she pleaded. “You might be okay with it.”

“I doubt that,” he growled as they headed toward the conference room.

He sat on the opposite side of the conference table next to his attorney and tried to contain his scowl as her attorney presented two folders and opened them before sliding them across the wooden surface. One in front of Maverick, the other in front of Larry.

“We looked over the terms that Mr. Nielsen sent over, and Olivia wanted to make some changes. You’ll see them outlined in the documents in front of you.”

“What kind of changes?” Larry asked suspiciously before glancing down at the paperwork.

Maverick was already looking at the changes she wanted. The words on the paper didn’t make sense.

He glanced up at Olivia. “You’re agreeing to give me full custody on the condition that you move back into my house?”

“Well, it’s more specific than that,” she said softly.
