“No! Our friends are excited for us and want to share in our happiness.”

She looked at him skeptically. “Or enjoy the open bar and the June weather at the Cape.”

“Eh, that too.”

“Couldn’t we have just had a party?”

“No way. I want attendants, sappy vows, our first dance, tossing of the garter and bouquet, tears of joy… the whole nine yards this time.”

“You kind of sound like a girl,” she teased as he opened the passenger door for her.

“I don’t care. I’m perfectly content with my masculinity. And you didn’t have any complaints about it this morning in the shower,” he countered just before he shut the car door.

“No, I didn’t,” she told him with a satisfied smile when he got in the driver’s side. “I love when you remind me you’re the boss.”

He leaned over and pecked her lips. “I love that you let me be the boss.”

She knew he was kidding. Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell didn’t need anyone’s permission for anything. But she loved that when it came to his family, he was a giant teddy bear. Especially with her.

“It looks like the weather is going to cooperate,” he told her as he eased the SUV onto the road.

“That’s good. Taylor was worried how we were going to fit one hundred people into the B & B if it rained.”

He threw his favorite mantra at her. “We would have made it work.”

She didn’t mind it so much now. Actually, she found it comforting, because she knew she could count on him to do just that.

He’d originally wanted to rent a ballroom and have five hundred people at this wedding. Fortunately, Olivia had been able to rein him in, with the help of Evan’s girlfriend, Hope. She and Yvette, Hope’s best friend from San Diego, owned a bed and breakfast on the Cape and offered to rent them the entire property for the weekend. Luckily, the Dragonfly Inn couldn’t accommodate any more than one hundred people on the property.

Yvette and James Rudolf, a doctor who also worked at Boston General, just had a baby girl of their own in March, so she had been spending most of her time in the city. And Hope’s job in the lab at Boston General kept her busy. But the two women had an excellent staff. Taylor, a recent college graduate had been really helpful with all the wedding preparations, while Isaac, the resident handyman, promised he could bring all the preparations to life.

Taylor met them in the front lobby.

“Welcome to the Dragonfly Inn! Your parents just got here about an hour ago with your son. I’ve gotten them situated in their room, and Isaac will show you to the bridal suite.”

Isaac was much younger than Olivia had been expecting. And the longing smile he gave Taylor when he walked by her at the front desk had Olivia wondering if there was more to their story than just handyman and guest relations manager.

She kind of hoped so. She wanted everyone to be happy and in love like she was.

Maverick

Two days later, his breath caught in his chest when he saw his wife standing at the end of the aisle in the bed and breakfast’s garden in her white sleeveless wedding dress. The plunging V-neckline and tight, jeweled bodice made her boobs look fucking amazing. While the lacy skirt and short train circling her feet made her look elegant as she made her way along the white runner leading to him.

It seemed like it took her forever to reach him, and when he finally took her hand, it was like he could breathe again.

“You are absolutely stunning,” he whispered in her ear before they turned and walked up the small steps of the gazebo together to the waiting pastor.

With Nick and Nash at his side, and Rose and Evan next to her, it felt like the perfect day. Even her twin smiled when Olivia held her hand entwined with Maverick’s up in victory when they were presented to the crowd as husband and wife—again.

At the reception, Olivia brought over a baby girl to the table where Maverick was holding Sawyer.

“Who’s that?” he asked his bride.
