“How’s he liking Accession Training?"

“I think he likes it. The Florida heat is kicking his ass a little right now, but the girls in bikinis on Pensacola’s beaches are helping ease his pain.”

Derrick chuckled. “He’s doing the Mitchell name proud. Gabe is bringing someone he’s been dating; mom’s excited.”

“Is he bringing the kids, too?”

“No, it’s Becky’s weekend with them. He doesn’t dare ask her to switch.”

Their brother had gone through a messy divorce a few years ago. It hadn’t been as amicable as Maverick and Patricia’s had been.

“What about Beau? Is he bringing someone?”

His brother’s mouth hitched in a sly smile. “I don’t think so.”

“What are you grinning about?”

“I might be bringing someone. Maybe. We’ll see how this weekend goes before I ask her.”

“Oh yeah? Where’d you meet her?” He didn’t even pause to let him respond. “Let me guess, you bought her a drink here one night.”

Derrick shrugged. “It worked—you should try it.”

He had tried it, and it had succeeded epically—until it hadn’t.

Apparently Dan had never ratted him out when he’d paid Olivia’s tab. Maybe it was because he’d actuallypaid—including a tip—and not comped it, like his brother had a tendency to do.

“Not my style, you know that.”

“You got any more dates lined up from that app you’re using?”

“Unfortunately, this weekend. But I think I’m going to cancel. I’m just not up for another night of mind-numbing conversation, and this last one has me nervous.”

“Have her meet you here. Somebody can save you if it’s going bad. Just send a text, and we’ll suddenly have a kitchen emergency. Or Connie can pretend she’s your wife or something.”

Oh, the fucking drama just to go on a date these days.

“Yeah, maybe. If I go through with it that’s probably what I’ll do.”

Derrick shot Maverick a grin as he slid a draft in front of him. “I’m here for ya, big brother. Don’t forget to tip your bartender.”

Chapter Five

Olivia

She lay on the table wearing the hospital-provided gown and stared at the ceiling as her friend waved the wand over her goo-covered belly.

“Okay, moment of truth. Do you want to you know what you’re having?” Rose asked.

“Yeah, I decided I do.”

Rose put her hand on the monitor but didn’t turn it. “Are you sure?”

Olivia took a deep breath. “Yes, I’m sure. But I don’t want anyone else to know, so when my brother comes nosing around, you tell him I decided not to find out.”

“You got it.”

The monitor flipped and Olivia studied it for a minute before breaking into a huge smile when she saw the certain anatomical part.
