Maverick

Christmas Eve morning arrived and once again, he woke with his arm wrapped around her waist, and her ass nestled against his hard cock.

It was a good thing she usually slept soundly in the three hours between feedings, because he often woke up like this. Normally, he’d casually roll away, careful not to wake her, but since it was their wedding day he decided to lay there for a few minutes and enjoy the softness of her curves against his hard planes.

He breathed her familiar floral scent in deeply, closing his eyes as he let it wash over him. He was marrying this gorgeous woman in a few short hours. How the hell did that happen?

Oh yeah, she’d tricked him in order to get pregnant.

And he was so glad she did.

He decided to savor holding her just a little longer. When she started to stir, he reluctantly rolled away and slipped out of bed before she felt his cock poking her.

“Good morning,” she called softly as he walked across the floor.

“Good morning.”

He glanced back at her lying in his bed. She looked like a siren beckoning him back to bed as she rubbed the sleep from her eyes while her tousled hair cascaded down her shoulders. Maverick had to will himself to keep walking.

“Merry Christmas Eve.”

“Happy wedding day,” he countered.

“Is that today?” she teased with a twinkle in her eye.

Maverick couldn’t help but smile. “Tomorrow you’ll wake up a married woman.” He paused at the threshold of the bathroom and turned around with his hand on the casing. “Have you decided if you’re going to change your last name to Mitchell?”

He definitely wasn’t doing that hyphenated shit his brother had talked to him about.

She smoothed the comforter at her sides. “Um, I think it would make sense professionally if I didn’t. I’ve worked hard to build my reputation; I don’t want to lose that.”

A pang of disappointment hit his stomach. Call him a caveman, but he wanted her to take his name.

“Can you keep your maiden name for your practice, but legally change it for everything else?” He quickly added, “That way you and Sawyer have the same last name.”

She glanced over at the still-sleeping boy and said wistfully, “That’s true. But I don’t know if I’d still be able to go by Lacroix professionally if I legally change it. To be honest, I hadn’t thought about it until you mentioned it.”

He’d thought about it, and may have done a little research on the matter.

“I think Massachusetts gives you a month after the wedding to decide.”

She tilted her head. “How would you know something like that?”

Busted.

“I was married before, remember?”

Her face fell, and she made pouty lips. “Aw.”

“Aw?”

“Your next wife is going to be number three. Well, you know what they say, third time’s a charm.”

“I’m not divorcing you, Olivia.” He smirked then turned on his heel and threw, “I can’t afford it,” over his shoulder before disappearing into the bathroom.

He was pretty sure he heard her mumble, “We’ll see about that,” before he shut the door.
