Her smile and acknowledgement meant a lot to him. On the handful of dates he’d been on recently, he’d paid each time and found probably half didn’t even say thank you. Manners counted a lot to the Salty Dog. His parents had ingrained that in him. And anything they’d missed, the Navy had taken care of.

“It was my pleasure—truly.”

They stared at each other for an awkward beat. Then she glanced down and fidgeted with the stem of her martini glass before finally looking up at him through hooded eyes and asking, “So, should we see what kind of trouble we can get into across the street?”

He knew there was a chain hotel kitty-corner from the bar and his heart skipped a beat that this might really be happening—she wasn’t all talk.

Offering his hand to help her down off the barstool, he murmured, “I can’t think of a better idea.”

Chapter Two

Olivia

The second they stepped into the night air, Pete swung her in front of him and held her head as he kissed her on the mouth. She parted her lips without hesitation, happy to discover he was an excellent kisser before things progressed further. When his tongue searched hers out, she instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck. That quickly led to him grabbing a handful of her hair as his kisses became more urgent.

She melted into his body, and yet it felt like she couldn’t get close enough to him. Taking her cue, Pete yanked her closer, his thigh positioned between her legs as he pressed her hips against his body while he angled his mouth t0 deepen the kiss. They only came up for air when another couple exited the restaurant.

Not letting her go, he growled in her ear, “Let’s take this across the street.”

All Olivia could do was nod her head yes. She was so intoxicated by him that he could have said, ‘Let’s go play in the street,’ and she would have agreed.

She buried her head in his chest and shivered. Alarm bells should be going off in her head with what she was about to do. On paper, it was dangerous, but that was far from how she was feeling. The unusual combination of how turned on, yet how safe he made her feel, was almost overwhelming.

He directed her into the hotel and sat her down in the lobby to wait as he went to the front desk. While sitting there, she was glad she’d had just enough to drink that it allowed her not to overthink what she was doing. As much as she wanted this, now that it was actually happening it would have been easy to have second thoughts. Fortunately, Pete was back and offered her his hand before she gave the idea any more attention.

In the elevator he took her in his embrace and gently kissed her. Searching her face, he quietly assured her as he tucked a lock of hair behind her ear, “Only what you’re comfortable with. What happens next is up to you.”

When they entered the hotel room, she suddenly felt awkward and shy. How was this going to transpire? Were they just going to get naked and go for it? That seemed like the best option—before she chickened out. She also knew she needed to say the words, since he’d essentially told her in the elevator she was driving this bus.

“I’d really like to have one of those orgasms you were talking about.”

Fortunately, he took it from there and pressed her back against the door without hesitation.

“I’d really like to give you one,” he whispered in her ear as he traced her jawline with the back of his fingertips. “Or two. Or three. Any time you want me to stop, just say red.”

Her body erupted in goosebumps. She doubted she’d be using her safe word with him.

“I’d like to reciprocate.” It was her turn to whisper in his ear. “I’m clean, and I’m on the pill.”

Please don’t say you’ve been snipped!

“Perfect, because I don’t have condoms with me and wasn’t sure if I should leave and go get some.”

“Mmm, no. I want to feel all of you inside me. Just you.”

“I’m also clean, by the way. Did all the tests at my last physical. Didn’t want you worrying about that.”

“I trust you.”

But you shouldn’t trust me. Obviously not about not being clean, but she hadn’t been on birth control since she’d told Casey she was going off it.

He slowly unbuttoned her blouse with one hand, staring into her eyes as he did.

“I trust you, too.”

A pang of guilt hit her square in the stomach. This was so dishonest.

But A) she was horny, and B) she wanted a baby, so those won out. Her guilt could take a hike. She was doing this, and she was going to enjoy it.
