“You did?” I laughed up at Munroe, imagining him trying to wrestle with measurements for all of my brothers. I’m surprised he hadn’t given up and just left them all in Boston. “That must have been fun.”

“He’s exceedingly patient,” Mom put in. “You’ve picked a good one, Lia.”

“Don’t I know it,” I said, smiling up at Munroe. “Come on, let me show you the restaurant. How do you feel about broonies?”

I’d made the decision to be honest with my family about my magick. I didn’t like to lie to them, and I had nothing to hide, as far as I was concerned. My brothers could be difficult at times, but they knew how to keep a secret, and they’d never do anything to put me in a position of danger.

“Shut up. Do we get to meet the little guy? This is so cool.” Luca bounded across the lawn like he was twelve years old.

Munroe wrapped an arm around my shoulders and pulled me into him as my family peppered us with questions, loud and rambunctious, as they spilled across the gardens.

“Just wait until they meet Clyde.”

Munroe laughed and pressed a kiss to my head, and my heart sighed. My mother had been right all along.

Love was always the perfect ingredient.
