“Raven, look at me,” Kellen ordered, nudging her gently with his hard length. Raven lifted her eyes, heavy with lust. “You might not be ready to hear this, but I’ll say it anyway. I claim you. My fated mate, my heart, my everything.”

Raven’s mouth dropped open, and he leaned forward, his lips gentle on hers as he entered her in one strong motion, her body adjusting to accommodate him. At her sharp inhalation, he paused, waiting, while his body screamed with delight about being buried deep inside his fated mate. This woman. His everything. Never had anything felt so right in his life.

Now he just needed her to catch up.

When she moved her hips, experimenting, and let out a soft gasp of excitement, he took that as a sign she was ready. Slowly, impossibly and achingly slowly, Kellen pulled himself out and entered her once more in a smooth motion. Over and over, he repeated the motion, keeping to a deliberate, measured pace as Raven learned what it was like to lay with a man.

And not just any man.

Her fated mate.

A man committed to giving her pleasure.

Love.

Protection.

He groaned, forcing his thoughts back, his body screaming for release.

“Is this…am I?”

“You’re impossibly perfect, and I’m dying inside because I want to release so badly, but I won’t until you find your pleasure,” Kellen groaned, continuing his slow, measured strokes.

“I, oh, but I’ve already…twice now.” Raven gasped as he shifted the angle, lifting her hips slightly so he could drive deeper inside of her. “Kellen, that’s…oh, yes, right there, right there, right there.” And when she finally tipped over the edge, her muscles clenching around him, Kellen sought his own. A light flashed in the air around them, as he claimed her, crying out with his love for her.

His heart hammering in his chest, Kellen dropped to the mattress and pulled Raven into the crook of his arm so she sprawled half on top of him, and sighed in contentment.

“What was that flash of light? Did something happen?”

“I claimed you.” Kellen yawned, both ready for sleep and for another exploration of Raven’s body. She’d be tender, he reminded himself, this being her first time and all. “You’re my fated mate.”

“Kellen. I’m not…” Raven pushed back, sitting up, and Kellen sighed, knowing she was going to talk this to death. “You can’t just claim me. That’s positively barbaric. Don’t I get a say in this?”

“Of course you do.” Kellen yawned again, and realized he should probably prepare a bath for Raven. “I claimed you. But you still have to claim me.”

“Well, I don’t. I won’t. That’s just…you can’t just…” Raven shook her head, her brow furrowed. “You don’t just go around claiming people.”

“Well no, not just anyone. But your fated mate you do. And you, my love, are my fated mate. It’s love for you that fills my very being, Raven.”

“Love?” Raven arched an eyebrow at him. “Love? We hardly know each other. You can’t love me.”

“Nevertheless, my little nightbird, I do.”

“You’re…crazy. It’s the battle. The magick. I don’t know what. It’s making you crazy, that’s what it is.”

“You just have to say you claim me back. Then we’ll figure the rest out.”

“What? I’m not doing that. I’m not claiming you. I’mnot,” Raven insisted when Kellen stood, unperturbed.

“That’s fine. But I’d really prefer it if you would. Otherwise, I won’t be with you all that long.” Kellen held out a hand to Raven, and she glared at his hand and then up at him.

“Where are we going?”

“To have a bath together. You’ll be tender, and I want to attend to you.”

Raven’s cheeks pinkened in that delightful manner she had when she was both embarrassed and intrigued about something. Relenting, she let him pull her from the bed.

“What do you mean you won’t be around long if I don’t claim you?”
