"I can't wait for the wedding," Anna exclaimed.

"Neither can we," Rebecca said with a convincing smile. She grabbed my hand, running her thumb over it.

"Enjoy your meals."

Anna waved as she left.

"Now see, the tongue was a nice touch. But we’re just getting started. Let's share a dessert," I suggested.

"You're laying it on kind of thick," she said with a smile.

"Not really," I countered. "This is what loving couples do." I frowned. "Or I assume they do. I haven't had much experience with loving couples."

"What about your parents?" Rebecca asked.

I laughed humorlessly. "My parents have been married for forty years, but they stopped being in love a long time ago." I looked over the dessert menu. "I wonder if they ever were."

“I’m sorry,” Rebecca said.

I shrugged. "Don't be. They’re both getting what they want out of the marriage."

When the server returned, I ordered the chocolate mousse.

She settled back in her seat and crossed her legs. I imagined her silky thighs wrapped around my waist while I slowly fucked her. For a moment, I imagined her perfect face, crumpled and ecstatic in the throes of an orgasm. Suddenly and surprisingly, it dawned on me that I wanted to make her feel good, too.

"My parent’s marriage isn't a fairy tale either.” Her words transported me to the present moment. She sighed. “I suppose that is common among wealthy people."

I took a slow sip of the complimentary sambuca. "Everything comes with a price."

She laughed softly. "My mother said something similar."

"Do you think she's right?"

My heart stopped when she looked into my eyes, one of the first times all night.

"Yes, I do," she started. "But I think love is worth the price. Sometimes we must be willing to risk it all for the life we want."

My sister, Liv, left, and as far as I know, she didn’t regret it. We’d made a deal. Rebecca knew this. We were doing what it took to garner security for our families—a sacrifice that not everyone would be willing to make. One of the things I liked about Rebecca was that she understood the power of sacrifice.

“We have a role to play, but that doesn’t mean our lives have to be void of passion and romance.” I slid my hand across her thigh. Her skin felt soft and inviting. "Let's dance.”

I stood up and held out my hand. She smiled as I led her onto the dance floor. We joined the other couples. I pulled her close and pressed my hand against her back.

Her presence enchanted me. Being this close to her sent a flash of desire straight to my groin. Her intoxicating scent of vanilla and cinnamon made me weak with desire. I loved the feeling of her warmth in my arms. Over the years, I'd danced with many women, but none made me feel like Rebecca did.

The initial anger I felt about being conned into a shotgun sham wedding with a stranger slowly receded.

She moaned contentedly as she laid her head on my chest. The feel of her soft breasts pressed against me was almost too much, and I felt myself harden.

We swayed to the music, lost in our little world until the song ended. I leaned forward and brushed my lips against hers before slowly pushing my tongue between the seam of her lips. I deepened the kiss savoring the taste and feel of her. In response, she looped her arms around my neck, pulling me closer.

When we finally come up for air, she stared back at me. "That was unexpected."

I brushed my thumb across her lips. "It certainly was."

We returned to our table, where our dessert awaited us—one decadent scoop of chocolate mousse dusted with cocoa powder and fresh whipped cream.

"Open up," I instructed, portioning off a spoonful.
