I sat on my chair. “I love baking, but I will have to find another element."

I snapped my fingers. "Oh, I didn't tell you where we are going. At the end of the week, we are attending a charity event in Napa Valley."

"You love Napa!" Jasmine reminded me.

"I know. I wish I were going with you and not Sebastian."

"I thought he was getting better. Besides, it’ll give you a chance to have a little sexcation," Jasmine teased.

I rolled my eyes. “He’s getting better, but he can still be a dick sometimes. We’ve never spent a whole weekend away together,” I added.

"Are you nervous about your first time with him and your first time?" Jasmine asked.

"I'm nervous because I don't know how it will go. I don't want him to think of me as a naïve, inexperienced girl that he can take advantage of. But I'm also excited and curious to see where it leads us," I admitted.

“You are not naïve. Look at everything you’ve accomplished.”

“In business, but my experience in the bedroom is … non-existent.”

“You’re placing a lot of trust in him. I know it's hard to open up and let him in, but if you want this marriage to work beyond the surface level, you have to.”

"I'm surprised to hear you say that, considering you don't like him or the arrangement."

"I don't like the arrangement, but I'm warming to him. Maybe he's better than he seems.”

"Yeah, when we went home, he understood that I wanted to go to bed. He didn't try anything."

"See, he's not an asshole all the time,” Jasmine replied.

I took a sip of my coffee and smiled. "I guess not."

Once Jasmine left, I made an appointment to see my gynecologist when I returned from Napa. I figured I’d need to get on birth control sooner rather than later. My weekend trip to Napa loomed over my workday, a sexy and intriguing surprise.

Chapter 7

Sebastian

Isatatmydesk and tried to focus on my work. Lord knew I had plenty to do, considering the Dover project was going to shit. I pinched the bridge of my nose and tried not to think about the possibility of the mall’s failure.

I didn’t fail, so the project would not fail. With fresh energy, I attacked my to-do list. An hour later, my phone pinged. My father asked me about this weekend with Rebecca. I gritted my teeth in irritation and told him as politely as possible to mind his business.

No matter how much I did for this company, he doubted me. If he didn’t doubt me in business decisions, he doubted my behavior in my personal life. I wouldn’t mess things up between Rebecca and me by hooking up with one of my Californian flings. Those days were behind me. I would never hurt Rebecca by cheating on her—infidelity clause or not.

The thought of Rebecca brought a smile to my face. I checked the time. It was lunchtime, and I wondered if Rebecca was free. Then I remembered her mentioning that she was having lunch with some of her sorority sisters. Rebecca was an impossibly busy woman. Her social calendar was jam-packed. Whenever I asked her to do something with me, she was either volunteering or busy with Jasmine. I remembered when I thought she was a total airhead; oh, how wrong I was. Rebecca was one of the most intriguing and intelligent women I’d ever met.

"Knock, knock." I looked up and saw Olivia. "Joey and I thought we would visit you. Are you free for lunch?"

I crossed the room and pulled my little sister into a big hug. "For you two, I'm always free."

Olivia had the same dark hair and dark eyes as our mother. However, Olivia had a slender frame with our father's high cheekbones. I was five years older; as such, I had quite a protective streak when it came to her and Joey. When she left Boston seven years ago, it nearly tore our family apart. I understood Olivia's decision and supported her, but our parents did not.

"How's Jack?"

"He's good. Busy as usual, but I can't complain. His surgical practice is growing, and he makes time for Joey and me." She chuckled. "I don't know how he does it all."

"It's because he loves you and Joey," I replied.

Her brows arched. "What is my big brother doing talking about love?"
