Javi looks around himself then motions with his head toward the entrance of the bathrooms. “I would like to speak somewhere more private.”

I follow him. This is absurd, obviously, and I think Dom is as aware of it as I am. But I’m not nearly as famous as Javi–I’m, in fact, not famous at all–and I understand that he needs more discretion than I do.

So we’re in the little entrance to the toilets of a fancy hotel and I think Javi hopes no one’s going to be able to see us.

“I looked you up,” he says. He’s talking to Dom.

“Alright…”

“I should’ve probably done it before last night, but I’m not a smart man,” he says softly, waving his hand in front of his face. “Anyway. You’re like a wizard or something, right?”

Dom cocks his head, his brow furrowed. “I guess…”

Javi ignores him. “Something happened before I found you. I was just…it doesn’t matter what I was doing. But I suddenly saw you, like, both of you, in that elevator. Stuck.”

“You saw us?” I ask.

“Yeah, in my head,” he says. “And look, I thought I was just overreacting and being anxious or whatever, but it turns out you were actually stuck in an elevator. If I hadn’t had this…”

“Vision?” Dom offers.

“I don’t want to call it a vision,” Javi says. “Maybe it was just instinct or something. Anyway, I’ve been thinking about it all morning, and I just wanted a sanity check. This is crazy, right? Just a random coincidence?”

“It has to be a coincidence,” I say.

Javi looks at me with a disbelieving look in his eyes. “I thought you should know this because it’s about you, but actually, I was asking him.”

“Why am I here?” I mutter.

“Because you’re pretty and I want you around,” Javi replies, without missing a beat. It makes my cheeks redden, but he suddenly turns to Dom as if he hadn’t just complimented me. “Anyway. What do you think?”

Dom shakes his head. “Hard to know. Maybe it was a vision, maybe it was a simple coincidence. I don’t have a crystal ball so I can’t tell you.”

“Honestly, it surprises me that you don’t have a crystal ball,” I say.

Dom glares at me, but Javi laughs. When he sees the look on Dom’s face, he gets serious. “I think I’m just letting myself get freaked out over nothing. This always happens right before touring, I get…unreasonable.”

“You did find us in the elevator. That wasn’t unreasonable. That’s factually correct,” Dom says.

“But there was an earthquake and that might’ve just been a logical inference,” I respond. “You seem like a smart man.”

“I promise you, I’m not,” Javi says, flashing me a charming smile that makes me go weak at the knees. Goddamn, why does he have to be so hot? It makes it really hard not to be charmed by him. “I just wanted to flag it, in case…you know, in case it’s something. Something you want or need to do something about.”

“Thanks, Javi,” Dom says. “That must’ve been hard for you to share. I appreciate it.”

Are they becoming friends? It’s weird. I don’t know how I feel about it.

“Yeah, I’ll keep you in the loop if anything else happens. I mean, I doubt it, but…”

I watch Javi for a bit. He seems sincere, at least. “Thank you for telling us,” I say. “And thank you for coming to get us. It was really scary last night.”

He flashes me a smile, edging closer to me. I think he’s about to kiss me, but then someone stops by and watches us, so he claps a hand over my shoulder instead.

It’s a little disconcerting.

“Of course,” he says. “Whatever you need.”

I watch his hand as he moves it away from me.
