This is going to be different. We’re a supporting act for a singer who already has a massive following and is a huge star in South America and a rising star in the States. Now that the headache has lifted a little bit, I can focus on how this is a huge deal.

I’ve never met Javi before–Javi, like that, he has a last name but his stage name is mononymic–but I’ve definitely studied him. He comes across as attractive, kind, easy-going, really quick on the uptake during interviews, and an incredible performer. Of course, that could also be a performance. For all I know, the man is a total diva, and the next few weeks are going to be a nightmare.

I’m standing in front of the hotel while Dom fetches someone to help him unload the car when Sierra touches my shoulder softly. “Hey,” she says. “You good?”

“Yeah,” I say, forcing myself to smile. “Starting to get excited.”

She smiles back at me. “It’s going to be great, Al,” she says. “Even if it’s not a great tour…how many people get to do this?”

I nod, looking up at the hotel again. “You’re right,” I say. And she is right. I should be focusing on how grateful I am to get to do this, not the incessant, annoying rain.

“We should have rules,” Kelly says. She’s standing on my left, Sierra on my right, and we’re just looking at this hotel’s lobby before going in.

“Is ‘don’t suck’ a rule?” Sierra asks.

“If it was, you’d already be breaking it,” Kelly says, a smile in her voice. “No. I meant more like…don’t sleep with the talent. We don’t want to fuck this up for ourselves.”

Sierra giggles. “Define ‘the talent,’” she says.

“You should be talking to Trine,” I say softly. “She’s the one who collects boyfriends like Pokemon.”

They both glare at me. I can feel my cheeks redden.

“I didn’t mean it like that,” I say. “Good for her.”

“Are you sure you didn’t mean it like that?”

“I wasn’t slutshaming. I was slut…praising. Like I said, good for her.”

Sierra snickers. “Cool. I’ll make sure to tell her you were slutpraising her.”

“Don’t you dare.”

Kelly walks backwards in front of me. “We’ll tell her you called her the slutmaster.”

“Stop it,” I say, but I can’t help but laugh.

“Yeah, we’ll say you were slutcelebrating her,” Sierra says. “I’m sure she won’t be mad.”

“Don’t say anything? It’s been a long day.”

“A long day of shaming,” Kelly says, wrinkling her nose. “Sounds hard for you.”

I shake my head. “I don’t think the talent will be interested in sleeping with me, so I think I won’t have any issues sticking to the rules.”

“Right,” Kelly says, then shields her eyes with her hand as a van approaches us. “Anyway, I think that’s them.”

She’s right. The white van parks next to us and Misha emerges from the driver’s seat, looking a bit worse for wear. He rounds the vehicle so he can open the door and helps Trine out of the car. Then he does the same with Bryony, who doesn’t look like she’s been through a hellish few traveling hours. Her pink hair is perfectly curled, her make-up reapplied, and her pale eyes widen as she looks up at the hotel.

“Fuck!” she says. “So fancy. Can’t believe Devon managed to pull this off.”

“Shh,” Trine says. She’s holding onto Misha’s arm, whose gaze flits between all of us as if he’s checking we’re all okay or something. “Don’t say that too loudly or it’ll go to his head.”

“No, say it again,” Devon says, sneaking up behind her. “I live off flattery.”

“You did good,” I say.

He winks at me. “Wait until you see your rooms,” he says. “I got Javi’s people to pay for all of it. Nobody even has to share.”
