“Nah, it wasn’t. I’m flattered.”

“You should be.” The blanket shifts to almost reveal my boobs again. I wrench the fabric to my chin in a white-knuckle grip. “Dammit.”

Garrett tosses a soft lump at me. “Put that on if you’re worried about a nip slip.”

“What—?” I unfold the bundle to reveal a sweatshirt. Stamped on the front in big letters is the phrase ‘Hangover Hoodie’, and by the softness of it, it’s been used for quite a few rough mornings. “Clever, but it’s not gonna fit.”

“Just try.”

I tug the well-worn cotton over my head and discover that it does in fact fit. Before I celebrate that small victory, Garrett’s rumble steals my focus. Primal hunger flares in his gaze to warn me that I’m the one about to be devoured.

“Perfect,” he rasps.

“Um, thanks.”

“Before I forget, I put a pause on your sexual propositions until morning arrived. Still interested?” He begins to lift the hem of his shirt.

Warmth rises in my cheeks. “Are you interested in these relations extending beyond the bedroom?”

“That’s kinky, soulmate. I like your adventurous spirit.”

“You know what I mean.” Then I grumble under my breath about obtuse bachelors.

“No strings,” he confirms.

“Afraid I’ll have to pass. Maybe you should’ve taken advantage when the mood stuck.”

Garrett’s smile appears naturally, as if he predicted my response. “Besties we remain then.”

Another moment resurfaces through the haze. “Ah, yes. I’m your first female friend who isn’t family. Try saying that five times fast.”

He does, just to humor me no doubt. “Impressed?”

“That you’re more committed to me than anyone else? Sure am.”

A grunt accompanies his cringe. “Remember that, huh?”

“Just a wee bit.” I pinch a sliver of space between my thumb and forefinger.

The sleeve of the hoodie brushes my nose and I make the mistake of inhaling. Crisp laundry detergent can’t mask the embedded traces of woodsy cologne and carnal lust. Damn, Garrett Foster smells yummy. It’s only then I realize that I’m surrounded by him.

Just as I’m about to recline against the headboard and enjoy my coffee, a vivid memory from the night before appears in startling clarity. I lurch upright as the thought occurs to me. Regret instantly follows the fast motion. An ache spreads across my entire body to protest further movement.

His brows wing upward. “Problem?”

“We kissed again,” I recall in a hushed whisper.

He licks along his bottom lip in a purposely lazy drag. “We did. It’s becoming a habit.”

My focus latches onto his mouth. A needy clench in my lower belly has me squeezing my thighs together. “Strange how that happens.”

“What’s a few kisses between friends, hmm?”

“Completely meaningless.”Liar.I’ve barely recovered from the one a week ago and now there’s a refresher to contend with.

“You can be my fake girlfriend whenever the need arises. Keeps the barflies off my shit. Want me to thank you again for that?” Garrett shifts into my space until we’re close enough to add a third tally to our smooch total.

Too bad I have dragon breath, or I might go for it. Instead, I shove a reminder into the gap separating us. “Will that help me find a real boyfriend?”
