I tickle her until she squeals and begs for mercy. “Yep, that’s me. I’m ready to get on the field. How did you come up with this idea?”

“Watching you toss the ball around with Bradley reminded me of a flyer I saw. I went back to the board and got the details. They organize games that anyone can join.”

I scoop her hand into mine. “This is really badass. Thanks, soulmate.”

“It’s nothing.”

My fingers squeeze hers. “To me, it’s everything.”

Her eyes search mine. Blue clashing into blue. Whatever she finds in those depths must give her the reassurance I’ll gladly provide on a regular basis.

Grace melts into me with a long exhale. “Okay.”

“See? That wasn’t so hard.”

“Hmm, not yet. Maybe later.” Her hips nudge mine. “Is that a penis straw in your pocket or are you only marginally excited to see me?”

I swat her ass. “Dirty girl. Quit trying to distract me.”

“It’s part of my ploy to beat you at your own game.” She tugs me forward.

“Hey there!” A blonde woman motions to us from the sidelines. “Welcome to Chicken Catchers.”

I sputter on the league name. “Well, shit. That goes great with Roosters.”

Grace elbows me. “Figured you’d get a kick out of that.”

“The cock den approves.”

The blonde eyes us. “First timers?”

My girlfriend bounces on her sneakers. “Are we that obvious?”

“Just a bit.” Her smile is friendly. “I’m Nancy.”

“Grace and Garrett.” I gesture between us for the introduction.

Her expression turns gooey. “Aw, that’s adorable. You’re a cute couple.”

The compliment would’ve sent me running before I hitched my wagon to Grace. Instead of an icy chill invading my system, a pleasurable warmth spreads through me. “Thanks. It was a tough battle, but I finally wore her down. Now she’s stuck with me. Forever.”

Grace hums, which drags into a sigh. She looks at me like I hung the moon and stars in her honor. The shimmer in her gaze suggests I’m totally getting laid later. That has me feasting on her curves in preparation. Heat wafts over me when her thighs clench. I meet her stare to expose the hunger rapidly overtaking my composure.

“Okay, wow. Cool off before you set the ground on fire.” Nancy fans her face.

“Sorry about that.” I clear my throat, widening my stance to hide any evidence not appropriate for the public. “She just really gets me going.”

“Ditto,” Grace murmurs.

“No problem. Use that enthusiasm for the game. Don’t get rough, though. It’s just fun. We don’t take the game too seriously. Well, most of us.” Her eyes shift to a guy several yards away. “Anywho, just take a belt. One of you will be red and the other is blue. Are you okay being on opposite teams?”

Grace shrugs. “Doesn’t make a difference to me.”

That’s what she thinks. A competitive thrum pumps into my bloodstream. Fallen leaves and memories swirl with the wind. This is going to be even better than I thought.

I smirk. “This isn’t going to end well for you, soulmate.”

“Show me what you’ve got, bartender.” She crooks a finger and I nearly trip over my own feet to follow.
