“It got me into your fold, didn’t it?” she asks.

“Yes, but why?” Duke grinds out.

Her tongue peeks out, sliding across her bottom lip, and her head tilts to the side. “Why indeed,” she says, then she giggles.

“She’s off her goddamn rocker,” Legacy mumbles. “Completely fucking nuts.”

“Yeah,” I agree with him. “She is. But she’s also playing us.”

Standing, I let the knife fall away from her throat as I take a step backward. “I think we’re going about this the wrong way,” I murmur to Duke.

“What are your thoughts?” he asks.

“We call Raul over here,” I say loud enough for her to hear. “If this has to do with Dutch, then it’s only fair that Raul is involved.”

My gaze flicks to her, and I watch her out of the corner of my eye. What I see is the look of pure fear cross her face. Flicking my attention to Legacy, I jerk my chin toward him. “Call him. Now.”

“Don’t,” she whispers. “I’ll tell you what you want to know.”

Turning my attention back to her, I cross my arms over my chest and stare at her, waiting for her to speak. When she doesn’t immediately, I arch a brow and uncross my arms. I’m seconds from motioning for Legacy to make that call.

Her eyes flick down to my uncrossed arms, then glide back up to meet mine again. “Fine,” she grinds out. “Fucking fine.”

“Go on, talk,” I say.

She dips her chin, her eyes lifting from the downward position as she looks through her lashes at me. “Dutch wanted to know what was happening in your group. He was worried that something was going down with the suppliers.”

“How the fuck did you even get close enough to Dutch to get to this position?” Duke demands.

I’m wondering the same thing, and I’m glad it’s Duke who asked it first. Sinking my teeth into my bottom lip, I wait for whatever her answer is going to be spun as. Clearing my throat, I take a step backward and lean against the wall of the office.

“He came a while ago when he was running things for Raul. We hit it off. We’ve been texting and meeting up secretly since.”

“So, this is the case of two lovers?” I ask. “And you came to me with a bullshit story for what? Just an in to the club? You should know better than anyone that you won’t find anything major out in the middle of the clubhouse. So, what the fuck is the plan?”

“The plan is to get in. No matter how long it takes,” she exhales.

No matter how long it takes. She was willing to fuck my entire life over, just so that Dutch could get the answers he wanted.

“I got news for you, babe. No matter how much you attempted to fuck me over or did actually fuck me over, I wouldn’t have told you a goddamn fucking thing.” Leaning forward, I make sure that her gaze is connected to mine as my lips curl in disgust. “Not a goddamn thing. You never would have been anything. No matter what.”

As if she realizes what she’s said and perhaps didn’t mean to, she turns to Duke. “I’m sorry. Please don’t send me to Raul. He doesn’t know. He’ll hurt Dutch if he finds out.”

“Fuck Dutch,” Legacy grumbles.

That motherfucker is a major goddamn problem. He has been, and he should have been taken out when he did what he did last time. When he fucking sent Roadkill and me to that goddamn lunatic who had Piper and tried to kill me.

“That fucker is done,” Roadkill growls as he slams his hand down on the countertop.

“I’m calling Raul right goddamn now,” Legacy announces.

The room goes completely silent. A pin could drop, and it would be heard by every single person in the room. Everyone knows what that means, and Raul knows that there are only so many chances Dutch can have. He’s been a ticking time bomb, and his time is up.

ChapterThirty-Two

PIPER

Dutch is driving like a maniac. He’s speeding, weaving in and out of traffic, while I’m staring straight ahead, holding on to the handle of the door wondering when we’re going to crash, because at this point, it’s going to happen no matter what. It’s just a matter of time.
