I am home.

I. Am. Home.

AGONY

After the party, I gather my woman and take her home. We don’t speak on the way home, and I should probably feel uncomfortable about that, but I don’t. I’m lost inside my own head, which is filled with its own drama about the club and the Hell’s Souls. I have a really bad feeling about it all.

I pull Reese’s car into the garage, kill the engine, and close the garage door before I make a move to get out. When I reach for the handle of the car, cool fingers wrap around my wrist, stopping me from moving.

Turning my head slowly, I look at Reese, who is staring at me with wide eyes. I arch a brow, waiting for her to say something since she clearly has something on the tip of her tongue at the ready.

“Thank you,” she says.

My lips twitch into a small smile, and I dip my chin in a single nod. “You feeling better, buttercup?” I ask.

She shrugs a shoulder, her eyes shifting to her lap before she lifts them to meet my own. “A little, but I’m still not ready to go back.”

I hum and cup her cheek. Leaning forward, I touch my mouth to hers, my teeth tugging on her bottom lip before I release her and shift backward. “You will be. Just takes time. All this shit literally just happened to you.”

She nods once, then clears her throat. “Yeah,” she exhales as she releases my wrist from her grasp and turns toward the door. I watch as she pushes it open and starts to stand from the seat, though she doesn’t seem to be in a huge hurry.

“Buttercup,” I call out.

She turns and looks back at me over her shoulder, a small smile playing on her lips, but it doesn’t reach her eyes. I haven’t seen a smile reach those pretty brown eyes of hers in months, and I know it’s the stress of everything she’s been through and what’s happened to her.

But I want that smile—always.

“Lance?”

“Just… It’s going to be good. You and me. This life. It’s going to be fucking fantastic.”

She nods and closes the car door as I move to stand and shut the door behind me, then follow her into the house. There’s a stillness in the house and a peace. I hadn’t thought it possible that the cloud of Douglas and that whole fucking thing was here, but it was.

She doesn’t stop in the kitchen or living room. I follow her as she moves through our home and walks straight into the bedroom. She only stops when she’s at the side of the bed, where she turns to me, her eyes finding mine, holding them.

Her teeth sink into her bottom lip as she watches me in silence. I wait a few feet away but still within arm’s reach as she gathers her thoughts. I start to ask her what she’s thinking when she lets out a sigh and opens her mouth.

“I know it’s going to be good,” she murmurs. “There’s no other way it can be. Not after everything.”

I take a step toward her, then another, closing the distance between us. Placing my hand on her belly, I slide my other arm around the back of her head, my fingers tangling in her hair.

Tipping my head down, I touch my lips to hers before I speak. My mouth moves against hers. I can’tnotbe this close to her.

I have to fucking touch her.

All of her.

“I love you, buttercup. We’re going to make everything okay. It’s you, me, and this baby. Nothing else fucking matters.”

Epilogue

REESE

TWO MONTHS LATER

“Are you ready for this?”Piper asks.

Shaking my head, I reach for the handle of the salon door and tug it open. Slowly, we walk inside together—me, Piper, and Kiplyn. This is our first day back at work together.
