She squeezes my hand once more, then releases it as she takes a single step forward. “I know you would. And that’s why you’re here right now. Because you know I need this, and you’re the only person I want to go out with tonight.”

Even though this is not what I want to do at all, whatsoever. I would rather be sitting in my comfy chair, in my underwear, reading a spicy romance novel. But I am here with Allison, my best friend, dressed and ready for an evening that I want nothing to do with.

Together, we continue out of the building and toward her car, which is waiting at the curb. Something causes my steps to falter. Stopping at the passenger side of the door, I look down the sidewalk in each direction, expecting to find someone there watching me, but there is nobody.

I look over my shoulder to glance back at the building. Again, nobody. I can’t shake the feeling, though. Someone’s eyes are on me. I know what it feels like to be watched, that sensation I had as a little girl, waking up to see someone watching me. It’s not something you can easily shake off or forget about.

And I feel it right now.

Opening the door to her car, I try to ignore the feeling, the way the hairs on the back of my neck stand at attention and my spine tingles, but I can’t. Either someone is watching me, or I’m about to get struck by lightning, and since there isn’t a cloud in the sky, I’m going with someone watching me.

“Are you coming?” Allison calls out.

My entire body jerks once, then I give her a smile and shake off the thoughts I was focusing on. Sinking down into the seat of her car, I close the door and glance around again, hoping to find someone walking down the street or something, but again, there’s nothing.

“Let’s go.”

“You good?” she asks.

Nodding once, I smile. “Yeah,” I lie.

ChapterFive

WELLS

“You breakinginto Mom’s office tonight to get that girl’s number?” Hendrick asks as soon as we step outside the house.

Coleman chuckles beside me, but I can tell he’s lost in his own thoughts. Dad is going to send him a dossier of women to look at. I’m not sure if that’s what I want for myself. It’s a list of women who are basically available for purchase. There’s something that doesn’t sit right with me about that.

Not that I’m some man with a moral high ground. I’m not. I just want the fear in their eyes to be about what my cock is going to do to their virgin snatch, not if I’m going to kill them when I’m done with them.

Although, that wouldn’t be bad either if I were being honest. Fear can be a great fucking turn-on, but I don’t think I would want the woman who I am supposed to share my life with, the woman who is going to have my kids, to be physically fucking horrified by me. So, maybe I’ll try to find my own virgin to keep.

Maybe it’ll be this girl.

Maybe not.

Probably not.

“You wanna help me?” I ask, shifting my attention over to Hendrick.

He grins. “I do this; we go out tonight?”

“Coleman, you in?” I ask.

Coleman is a few steps ahead of us. He turns his head, his eyes finding mine. I can tell he isn’t thrilled about dumping his piece of ass. It’s not that he scraped her off. It’s because Dad tried to make him marry her. I think that’s what’s bothering him the most in this situation.

My brother is very much a Hamilton. He doesn’t like being told what to do… ever. Even if it’s what he doeswantto do, he will bow the fuck up and not do it out of stubborn spite. If you ever want a Hamilton to do something, try to force him to do the opposite.

“Let’s do it. I need a fucking drink after the day I had, anyway.”

Hendrick smirks, and I shake my head. I shouldn’t think this sounds like a great fucking time, breaking into Mom’s office, then going out drinking with my brothers, but it is. “Meet at the office, then we’ll go to my place and leave for the club in one car?”

Coleman clears his throat. “I don’t plan on going home tonight, so I’ll take my own ride.”

“Same,” Hendrick says.

Chuckling, I realize it sounds like a great fucking plan. “Sounds good. See you at Mom’s.”
