I’ve never felt this way before.

Yearning. Craving. Longing.

I want this man to touch me—everywhere.

I need to run, but I can’t move. I’m frozen in place.

ChapterSeven

WELLS

One more dance.

Then, the car will be waiting outside for her, which will be Coleman in the driver’s seat. I’m hoping he will be able to get some information out of her that I cannot find online, in bank statements, or going through her phone. Although, Hendrick seems to be a wealth of unattainable knowledge.

When the song ends, I release her tender throat. I could have killed her in seconds. She allowed me to wrap my fingers around her neck, such a vulnerability, and I’m not sure she realized exactly what she was giving me, but I aim to take it.

And take.

And take.

Until there is nothing left.

Then I’ll be done with her and ready for my bride.

“The car will be out front,” I rasp. “Until next time, cupcake.”

Walking away from her, I slip into the crowd. I make sure I’m hidden, although she has no idea what I look like. I watch as she spins around and tries to find me. Frantically, her eyes search the crowd in hopes of finding the man she’s danced with all night long.

“Give her a ride home, act like you’re an Uber?” I ask, even though it’s not a question. “She’ll recognize my voice.”

“I don’t understand. Why don’t you just do what Hendrick did with the friend?” Coleman asks.

My lips curve up into a grin. “It’s much more fun this way, brother.”

Coleman rolls his eyes to the ceiling, giving me a smirk before he jogs away and out of the club. Shifting my attention back to Parker, I watch as she looks around for another moment, then her shoulders drop, and she heads for the door.

I don’t take my eyes off her. I watch as she slips out the door, then look at my phone and wait until Coleman texts me. A few moments later, my phone buzzes with a new text.

BROTHER 1: The package is safe. Meet at my place in thirty.

SEE YOU THEN.

Leaving the club, I jog toward my own car and reach for the door just as my phone rings. Looking at the caller ID, I frown at the sight of my father’s name flashing on the screen. I slide my thumb across, lift the phone to my ear, and sink down in the front seat of the car, locking the door behind me.

“Dad?” I ask.

“I need you at the house. Coleman, too. Business.”

I wonder if, somehow, he found out that we broke into Mom’s office, but wouldn’t he ask for Hendrick, too? I shake my head, clearing my throat.

“I’m on my way. What’s this about?”

He hums, and I know I fucked up. You never, not ever, ask a man of the family what a meeting is going to be about or any type of business over the phone. I know that. I learned that when I was fifteen, and yet I still asked.

I open my mouth in an attempt to save myself, knowing I couldn’t even if I had something quick-witted to bark out when my dad speaks.

“I am going to ignore that since this isn’t a normal request. This is important business. I’ll see you soon.”
