Luckily, nobody seems to notice me as I make a beeline straight for my office. Ducking into my space, I lock the door behind me and close the shades before I sink down in my chair, closing my eyes with a heavy sigh.

Alone, at last.

My phone buzzes on my desk with a new notification. My eyes slide open as I reach for the device. I have a new text message from Wells, but it’s over an hour old. I cringe, feeling bad for not answering him.

He also changed his name in my phone, and just the sight makes me smile.

SEX GOD: ARE YOU SORE?

I start to type back a simple response of yes but then decide against it because he’s probably pissed that I haven’t responded in so long.

I’m sorry I didn’t respond. I was in a meeting. Yes, I am.

Staring at the phone, I wonder if he’s going to respond immediately. Those little bubbled dots don’t appear. And as I sit and stare at the screen, I realize they aren’t coming. He’s probably going to punish me for not responding right away.

It’s not like he said he would or anything, but this man is clearly used to getting what he wants the way he wants it, and I didn’t respond in time. My heart beats fast and then faster with each passing second, then there is a hard, loud knock on the door, and I jump.

“Parker,” a woman’s voice calls out.

Standing, I make my way over to the door and unlock it before tugging it open. It’s Rachel, who works at the front desk.

“There’s a Titus Atticus here to see you.”

I must stare at her in confusion because that’s exactly what I’m feeling in the moment. I have no clue who Titus Atticus is. I’ve never heard that name before in my entire life. Opening my mouth, I start to say that when she just gives me a shrug.

“That’s what he said his name was.” She turns around and walks away.

I’m not sure what I’m supposed to be doing now. I stay where I am, then decide I should go out and talk to this Titus person. Taking a step out of my office, I glance from left to right to see if Eira is still lurking around, but he isn’t anywhere to be seen.

With a grateful sigh, I head toward the reception area of the building. When I see him, my breath is stolen from my body. My heart skips a beat, and then every ounce of anxiousness just vanishes.

“Titus Atticus?” I ask, my lips curving up into a smirk. I’m relieved to see him, but that relief quickly vanishes.

He takes a step toward me, then another, until he’s directly in front of me. “The one and only,” he murmurs. “You’re in deep shit, cupcake.”

“I texted you back as soon as I could,” I quickly blurt out.

Wells chuckles but doesn’t look like he truly finds any of this funny. I’m not sure what happened, but there is a darkness in his eyes that wasn’t there when I left this morning. He appears to be angry, but I’m not sure it’s at me. Although, by the way he’s watching me, I have a feeling he’s going to take it out on me.

“Your office,” he grinds out.

Turning my back to him, I begin to walk toward my office, taking him with me, when I hear Eira call out my name. My feet falter, and I stop at the sight of him standing at my doorway. “I was looking for you,” he says, either not seeing Wells standing next to me or not realizing what and who he is to me.

“You were?” I ask, hoping he doesn’t say anything that will cause Wells to become angrier than I think he already is.

“I was going to ask you if you wanted to join me for lunch,” he murmurs.

Wells growls. I know this is going to be very bad. I open my mouth to say something in an attempt to stop whatever is about to happen, but Wells beats me to it. He releases my hand, takes a step forward, and slides to the side to be a barrier between me and Eira.

Placing my hand on the center of his back, I start to tell him that this is my boss, but again, I don’t get the chance because he starts speaking before I can give him a single word of warning.

“Why?” Wells demands.

“Why?” Eira repeats.

This man is unused to anyone questioning him about anything, and I realize Wells is the same way. They are without a doubt going to butt heads, and soon.

“It’s not your business.”
